Something to watch with my 10yr old daughter

ApisMellifera · 05/11/2025 11:42

My 10 year old daughter and I have just finished watching ghosts together, which she loved, although the ending made her sad. Most of the slightly risque stuff seemed to go over her head, eg she thought Julian had no trousers because he died on the toilet...
Anyway we're looking for something new to watch and I'd welcome some suggestions. She likes stuff like junior bake off and sewing bee. She loved Just Add Magic and still enjoys Bluey! We've watched all the Horrible Histories already and she's not all that enthusiastic about Malory Towers when I suggest it.
We have Disney, Netflix and Apple as well as BBC iPlayer etc.
I'd love some suggestions for the next thing to watch together.

My 11 year old and me watch The Simpsons and Taskmaster bleeped.

CoddledAsAMommet · 05/11/2025 22:25

Oh, and Worsel Gummidge with McKenzie Crook is absolutely fantastic.

Lulumush · 05/11/2025 22:27

She will love Last Tango in Halifax. My two did!!

Lulumush · 05/11/2025 22:29

Oh and the full set of Downton series is on Ch4. That'll keep you busy and again mine loved it especially as its entwined with real history some of which they know about (WW1 etc)

Fuckingfuckssake · 05/11/2025 22:32

Malcolm In The Middle
Travelman
Taskmaster bleeped
Race Across The World

Fuckingfuckssake · 05/11/2025 22:33

The Detectorists is just lovely but possibly a bit boring for a 10 year old.

Cece92 · 05/11/2025 22:36

My DD12 likes young sheldon, modern family, she likes friends too. She’s been dying to watch stranger things for a few years but my sister said at the time she was too young f. I’ve never watched it but we might start it. Friday night dinner is a good shout I love it

SophiaSW1 · 05/11/2025 22:38

Celebrity traitors!

ronconcoke · 05/11/2025 22:39

My DD aged 9 loves Celebrity Traitors. She enjoyed the other series too. She also still avidly watches Bluey!

Not heard of Ghosts but seems very popular!

Much as I loved Downton I wouldn’t want her watching it - some very adult themes - but I know she’d be too young for it.

GreenMarigold · 05/11/2025 22:45

I’ve been watching the original 60s Addams Family with my daughter - she loves it!

EdenGlen · 05/11/2025 22:55

How about Renegade Nell? Think it’s on Disney.

Driftingawaynow · 05/11/2025 22:56

It’s standup comedy but everyone should watch Nate Bargatze with their kids, very funny and totally clean

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 05/11/2025 23:10

DD11 loves the Traitors and Celebrity Race Across the World. She also enjoyed Destination X when it was on over the summer.

From the CBBC area of iPlayer, she has loved The Next Step (there are 10 series, so would keep you going for a while!), So Awkward and Malory Towers.

I found her giggling to an episode of Only Fools and Horses recently, which happened to come on after something else, although I had to explain so much about life in the 80s!

StarDolphins · 05/11/2025 23:21

My 9 year old watches
Nature programs (Sping watch etc)
young sheldon
Benidorm
Tipping point
Strictly
trairors

I’m shortly going to be introducing her to Only fools.

fruitbrewhaha · 05/11/2025 23:21

The Durrells is lovely.

Good shout..its so good!

Cornwallchippy · 06/11/2025 12:32

Another vote for Anne with an E here. My daughter (then 10) and I binged it during lockdown and we still put it on now when we're feeling like something to comfort watch!

Ooogle · 06/11/2025 13:40

Is Young Sheldon ok for a ten year old? My dd liked the look of it but I wasn’t sure if it was ok for her age having never watched it or the Big Bang theory

MineisanAperol · 06/11/2025 13:43

BBC Merlin was a crowd pleaser in our house.

ApisMellifera · 06/11/2025 13:45

Thanks everyone, loads of great suggestions here. We started Once Upon a Time on Disney last night but I've made a list of the other series mentioned here for our watch list.

Outnumbered was the one we went to after Ghosts. And Race Across the World a firm favourite too.

I was coming on to say detectorists. My just 13 year old loved watching this with me and dh when he was about 11. I thought he may find it a bit plodding but absolutely not. He’s loved ghosts too. And motherland and now amandaland. We are all currently watching only murders in the building and absolutely loving it. It’s gorgeous having a show we can all watch together when his younger db is in bed.

Prime Just Add Magic. We weren't sure at first, seemed a bit cheesy but stick with it!

I agree that Just Add Magic is fantastic — really well made and acted, has a great female ensemble cast, and really stands up to repeat viewing. I enjoyed it as much as DD did and it remains her go-to comfort series! The storylines start off quite simple but get more complicated and even more interesting as the girls get a bit older.

DD likes Stacey and Joe (and Sort Your Life Out); also Celebrity Traitors and similar. She also really enjoyed a programme presented by Rob Brydon where a group of contestants get taken on a bus around Europe and have to guess where they are from puzzles and clues. It’s called Destination X and is a bit like Traitors on the move!

I also think the CBBC Malory Towers is fantastic - really charming and well acted. If you can get your DD to try it she might get hooked (mine was at 10 and still loves it now).

HushTheNoise · 06/11/2025 16:23

Taskmaster bleeped, only fools and horses is really dire when you rewatch it. My DH bought a cheap boxed set and we couldn't watch it. Mallory towers, famous five, all creatures great and small. Would I lie to you.

Silverbirchleaf · 06/11/2025 16:34

Race across the world
