Did anyone else watch this?

At the end in the real life one.
What happened? Cos there was like 3 trials I think?
Are they saying that the first two found him guilty but the last one didn't?
And why were they re-trialed?

I didn't quite follow what happened in real life!

Are you talking about the Michael Peterson death on the staircase?

if so what happened was he was found guilty then later he got a new trial because one of the witnesses had lied or something like that and then Michael Peterson ‘took a plea’. It’s called an Alford plea where he pleaded guilty but at the same time said he was innocent and was only pleading guilty for the getting out of jail.

The documentary is fantastic.

I think you're thinking of a different one

No. There is a really famous case called death on the staircase though!

I've watched this one, can't make up my mind about it! Great doc though.

@BarryKentPoetMP defo guilty of two murders - living a double life online. Why enter an Alford plea otherwise? Because his guilt could be proven with the evidence - guilty.

He was already convicted when he did the Alford plea. I can’t believe anyone would think he was innocent for a moment!

The audacity of him thinking he could have a documentary film crew in his house whilst preparing for the trial is breathtaking. He knows he’s guilty yet he still thought he was so great he could just have people filming him and still get away with it.

If you'd like to talk about a completely different thing to what the thread is about, make a different thread

Edited

It's called conversation You can't dictate how it goes, just interact with those who are talking about the programme you watched.

purpleme12 · 01/11/2025 09:07

Erm there have been no people talking about the programme the thread is about.
But several people talking about a different programme.
Hence my post.
So I don't think that's unreasonable in this particular thread and these particular replies

Apologies op but when you mention staircase killer everyone is going to think of MP and the owl defence as it was so audacious

Although many aspects of the MP case were audacious, he never actually used the owl defence. 'Owl theory' was discussed by those interested in the case.

It's one of my favourite true crime stories, fascinating and compelling. The similar death of the family friend in Germany years before still bothers me. It's one hell of an incredible co-incidence.

[No idea about what the other Australian Staircase thing is. Sorry OP.]

ParkAndThenRide · 01/11/2025 11:14

When they found that blow poke in the middle of the trial. 🤯

It’s better than any fictional story because it was made up people would say that it was ridiculous.

TeaRoseTallulah · 01/11/2025 23:05

Yes I watched it a while back OP.

purpleme12 · 01/11/2025 23:18

I personally think the boyfriend was absolutely guilty of at least manslaughter.
