Is there a thread yet?

Just finished watching the second episode. Wow it's good. I always love the leads anyway and yes it was a bit predictable but am hooked.

It's helped fill the Slow horses hole. Absolutely loved that. Tense ending but so clever.

Loving watching dept Q again. It's sometimes better watching again. You know what's coming but forget enough to make it good.

Emma Thompson’s husband is the teacher from Love Actually, isn’t he? The one who leads the ‘All I want for Christmas’ performance.

I liked it but found it very grim and distressing at times.

Emma Thompson's husband (in this, not Greg wise) has been in loads of stuff. He played Rasputin in The Great and was a science bod in Battleship. I was sorry they killed him off as I liked his character very much.
Im enjoying it myself. I find both Emma and Ruth fascinating to watch and I would love to look like the Emma character and have her clothes without looking manly.

@MinnieBaldock is that a spoiler in your post? Maybe ask MN to edit that.

No, that’s been broadcast.

Perfidia · 12/11/2025 16:18

Ep 4 was exciting! Though not in any novel or unusual way.

It’s somehow all a bit … sparse. As if, having paid the stars, there was no money left to buy witty dialogue or rooms full of people. Perfectly fine TV, but leaving one wanting a bit more.

JohnofWessex · 12/11/2025 16:19

I am waiting for my GP's approval to watch it as it has Emma Thompson in it...........

That’s not how spoilers work. The thread title doesn’t mention ‘spoilers’ so one could assume it’s a general discussion without spoilers - as indeed all the other posts are.

Elephantangel1991 · 12/11/2025 17:22

The last episode was...better. Not must-watch tv, but an improvement, not sure why. Think it's because Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson are selling it so much.

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/11/2025 22:00

I've given up on it halfway through episode 3. I hate the tricksy manipulation of the viewers re. which black man is which and I simply cba to put in the effort that's required of me.

myladyjane · 13/11/2025 04:55

The high spot for me was Ruth Wilson’s correct approach to eating monster munch.

DeepfriedPizza · 13/11/2025 07:51

Both men, the chasing man and the one with Sarah ( I can't remember anyone else's name, I only rememeber hers because it's the same as my sister) have absolutely no personality. They don't seem to have any facial expressions whatsoever!

outofofficeagain · 13/11/2025 08:00

I’m enjoying it even though it’s silly. Mainly because Ruth Wilson’s outfit matches her kitchen and I can only dream of achieving these standards.

but yes, so many plot holes.

Yes- it seems kind of thin. The "good" characters are too geographically dispersed and don't have enough contact with each other and aren't really doing that much. Also, they keep trying to make it slightly comedic which doesn't really work. I'm clearly still going to watch the rest of it though :-)

Perfidia · 13/11/2025 08:26

I think you mean Amos (the hit man) and Downey, @DeepfriedPizza.

Amos is supposed to be inscrutable - dangerously so. His feat of vocal mimicry yesterday was one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever seen on a TV screen. And we have seen him struggle to maintain his composure while dealing with the death of his brother.

Downey seems perfectly readable. Very expressive eyes. And one can see why Sarah would feel protective towards him - he gives the impression of needing unlimited hugs and blankets. I always enjoy his performances in everything he’s done.

I'm struggling with it. I think also slow horses and dept Q were so good and easy to follow and much more enjoyable. Currently re watching dept Q.

Has anyone watched Dept Q?

I watched Shetland but the ending of series 3 annoyed me. So haven't watched any others yet.

SO with you on Dept Q ( excellent) and Shitland ( sorry, I know some people love it), but just slogged through 3 series and given up on it. I know it's star-studded, but i tried it 2 years ago, gave up on it, returned to it 3 months ago, and completely understand why I didn't like it first time round.
I'm not a fan of Douglas Henshall, I'm afraid, but the plots ( for me) are dull, ( largely), and the characters not developed. I'm not going to waste any more time on it.

We, also, got into a total muddle with the 3 Michael/Axel/Amos characters in DCR. Episode 3 was better, as it dawned on us, but we wasted a lot of time pausing it and saying, "Hang on, so, how come....etc"
I love Slow Horses, but DCR, which i was so looking forward to, is a bit disappointing for me. I think ET is marvellous though, God I wish I looked like her.
I still think Happy Valley is the best thing I've ever seen.

And the meringue with ET🤣

What do we suppose happened to the hotel couple?

DH and I always say to each other how we don't like meringues whenever we see one and we both said it when watching that scene 😂

Edited

I don't have a sweet tooth usually but I do like a meringue.

I also got very confused with Silverman and Singleton. Give people different names lads!

Holluschickie · 13/11/2025 20:12

I have lost interest. Just a lot of chasing around with similar looking men and Malik being yelled at as he cocks up yet again. They should have got Sarah and Zoe together.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/11/2025 20:42

Just been talking about this with DH who carried on watching ep 3 when I gave up.

Apart from the feeling that the viewer is being fucked with (over Axel, Amos and the other one) is that some of the dialogue is so shockingly unrealistic that you don't really taking in what is being said (scenes between Malik and his boss for example). It's like the screenplay writers (or maybe Mick Herron not sure who is guilty here) are so determined to write clever dialogue that this becomes their overriding preoccupation - and they forget that the viewer needs to be in the know to a certain extent.

EleanorPeck · 14/11/2025 20:28

I got halfway through ep 3 and I've given up. Too silly, not witty, not tense enough either and I don't care about the characters. What a disappointment. Pluribus on the other hand is a terrific series.
