Just finished watching the second episode. Wow it's good. I always love the leads anyway and yes it was a bit predictable but am hooked.

It's helped fill the Slow horses hole. Absolutely loved that. Tense ending but so clever.

Looking forward to this. It has a 5 star review in the guardian today.

I watched half the first episode before Traitors. I wasn’t keen, but I’ll go back and give it another go.

I'm glad I couldn't binge am up early for work tomorrow. I would have 🙈

It definitely ended well. Ruth Wilson is such a good actress.

Have to say I was really disappointed in this. Found it really corny and inauthentic. Ruth Wilson deserves better

I thought this was disappointing. Didn’t quite settle on what it wanted to be. Slightly whimsical, lacks the witty edge of Slow Horses and Emma Thompson just not right for the part. A good ending though which might temp me to episode 2.

Oh I thought ET was great.

Episode 1 was balls. Terrible editing. Terrible pacing. Terrible script. No set-up. Even the sets were awful. The talent in this is mostly superb but even Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson can’t rescue it. And I say this as a huge Slow Horses fan.

Just watching episode 1. I’m really enjoying it. I’m loving Emma Thompson’s one liners.

Glad to find a thread. But have only skimmed for fear of spoilers.

Why am I not enjoying this after all the ‘next Slow Horses’ hype? I’ve watched Ep 1 and it just seems overly mannered and far-fetched. Grabbing tropes and cliches from everywhere - original Utopia, Black Doves, Strike, without the wit of any of them. Portentous, unfunny; at one point the heroine dumps her bike unlocked outside a hospital leaving her bag with it and returns a little while later to find them both safely untouched. And Emma Thompson is massively overplayed.

It’s all a bit nonsensical.

Should I persevere?

If Emma Thompson is your main problem then hershe doesn't get any less Thompsonesque but I did think the second episode was better with a good ending. Though any more Darren Boyd might be my own can't be arsed with this anymore moment.

I really want to like this but I just don't get it.
I don't understand why she was so desperate to see the girl and so rude to the hospital staff, of course they cant let some random in to see her.

Why is she so obsessed and acting like a lunatic? Did i miss something?

Ok, so that was a great ending to Episode 2 - though I’d already guessed what would unfold in the house.

And as an Oxford resident it’s quite fun to watch.

ET still seems to be acting in a different show. Must be a fun reunion for all the former Utopia actors.

Obsessed with her trying to visit the kid in hospital on a whim to give her a card from a kid she knows 😭😭, I can imagine her being ripped to shreds on aibu for that one

The wildly inconsistent acting styles are really distracting. Darren Boyd and Ruth Wilson may as well be in different shows. It’s definitely not in the same league as Slow Horses.
Ruth Wilson’s character has a lovely knitwear collection though.

Just watched the first two episodes. It a bit … meh 🤷‍♀️ I love Ruth Wilson usually, both she and Emma Thompson are wasted in this though. The daffy PI husband, the evil wealthy investor, the cruel and aloof government chap… blah blah so far so many caricatures 🙄. I’m not sure of the significance of RWs jumping off the roof while high bit is. And the stunningly beautiful renovated townhouse next to the squats 🤷‍♀️ and it’s never explained what her husband actually does to make all this money other than ‘investments’ 🤷‍♀️

ET a bizarre casting in this.

I really enjoyed it! I didn’t realise it was being released weekly and was so annoyed that there wasn’t Episode 3!

Gee whizz it’s terrible. I was so looking forward to it but it’s overacted, non sensical and the characters are all annoying

I went back and watched the first two episodes and it’s really not for me. Which is weird when Slow Horses is so incredibly good. What a shame.

Watched E1 this evening. I will watch E2 but it's no Slow Horses.
Agree that Emma Thompson's not hitting the mark for me - she's too much. And why is Ruth Wilson married to that guy? The PI office set is very Strike.
