It certainly does look like people are intimidated by Jonathan Ross.

Ive been saying that to Dh ( he's having none of it) and that's what I meant in my previous posts, that I think a few Faithfuls have a good idea but don't want to pit their head above the parapet.

notacooldad · 24/10/2025 14:21

He doesn’t come across as a nice person at all, more of a nasty oaf!

I didnt think he came across like that, just frustrated that no one is listening to the evidence he's showing and fed up with everyone being dim witted.

I think people like him. He’s a big personality and he’s funny

Liking someone doesn't mean they can't be a traitor in Traitors though, and if they want a traitor out, then the faithfuls need to vote for them. Perhaps they are all waiting for. someone else to go against "Big Dog" Jonathan before being brave enough themselves to vote for him?

I think only Joe voted for him in the last round table.

I really not totally convinced that this isn’t a bit scripted and planned
Yeah, I have been getting those vibes.

It's not. There is some direction to get people in a suitable location to spark conversation, and some planning to create situations (and the tasks, of course) and the selection of the first three Traitors, but there is no scripting.

Underscorn · 24/10/2025 14:57

Spot on!

He doesn’t come across as a nice person at all, more of a nasty oaf!

The competition is not about "being a nice person" and I'd agree with pp he's merely frustrated by others seeming to think Traitors can't be "nice people" and therefore never voting for Jonathan. Anyway, don't watch other Traitors if you find this triggering.

And yes, SF has a 2:1 from Cambridge, as do I and many of my friends. We're not all-knowing geniuses, it would be nice if we were treated with the deference reserved for him but we're wimmin so ...

scissy · 24/10/2025 14:59

In general The Traitors suffers from the odds being too stacked against the faithful. Until this point in the game, even if you know who a traitor is, there's no point voting then out as they'll just recruit someone and you have to start again (working out who the replacement is). Unless you get lucky being the replacement 😉
If they wanted to switch it up for future series, they could start with more traitors (maybe 4 or 5?), but they DON'T get to recruit, unless they are down to the last too early in the game. Different kind of paranoia if you ended up with a final of faithful assuming there was still a traitor or 2 amongst them 😂

lettingthedaysgoby · 24/10/2025 15:01

It certainly does look like people are intimidated by Jonathan Ross.

The thing that has affected this (and spoiled it a little, as far as I am concerned) is the continued adherance to the showbiz 'pecking order' by most people in there. Joe M is not affected by this and it shows, he is playing well (and tried to shoot down JR's deflection tactics at the roundtable). JR does carry considerable weight in the entertainment industry and most of the players seem to have an eye on how this will affect their image and connections in the 'real world'.

Oh that is savage 😂

Savage but true.

Although I do rather wonder at David and his heroworship. He's a decently intelligent man, how is he taken in?

I spend a lot of my time on rugby one way or another so I have a high threshold for aggression - provided it's channelled for something productive. Appreciate I'm unusual in this respect and others just hate it.

JM is at about 2 / 10 for how intimidating he can be....he probably just thinks he's being politely purposeful 😀. But I bet it's an unusual thing for the celebrities to experience and it's certainly getting some of them in a flap, so I think it's something worth trying.

Really ashamed that I didn't feel the same way about Ruth's directness / aggression😳. I need to have a hard word with myself on that.

I agree. Anyone else of ordinary size would just look purposeful, but being assertive can be taken as aggression when your physique is large and intimidating.

notacooldad · 24/10/2025 15:06

Fair enough!
Theres just been a few times when ive thought 'Really?!' I get that they would need a bit of direction to get conversations going.

IAmKerplunk · 24/10/2025 15:08

@lettingthedaysgobyRichard Osman mentioned this on his podcast - because of JRs chat show he is a useful person to keep in and build a relationship/friendship with - whether that’s a realistic thought or not.

Also, like pp have said - the problem with getting a traitor out too early is that you know they could be replaced and do you are back to square one.

I would like to see if they could balance it a little more, whether that’s be by offering clues or something, so that the faithful have a slightly bigger chance of finding a traitor - even if that is only 1 faithful is given a clue as to who a faithful is and then try and persuade the others. I don’t know - but something!

I wonder whether those who say Joe was being nasty and aggressive have watched regular Traitors before.

Joe was only moderately combative in my opinion, in comparison with some of the round tables in normal Traitors. See Anthony vs Dianne and others in season 2, and a girl who went out early from the same season whose name I forget!

And Leanne in season 3! She survived purely by being so aggressive at the RT when anybody even mentioned her that nobody dared do it

The game has two levels - finding the Traitors and avoiding suspicion and therefore banishment or murder (including if you are a Traitor). The entertainment for me is watching the interactions, discomfort and twists and turns between the cast as they try and achieve both these (which have elements that make them mutually exclusive - hunt Traitors too obviously, you get murdered if you are close or get accused yourself for too many questions, keep quiet and look like you are under the radar and trying to keep out of the way).

I also love the gothic campness of a lot of it!

I agree. I can't see why he's a 'genuis' either. He's well educated and well spoken, that doesn't make him a genius.

Yes I agree. He tends to talk the talk but next to Nick ( who is an actual clever person) he's just a waffler. Im surprised David thinks he's a genius though. I suppose they are both historians so the 'well read' comes into that a bit more.

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2025 15:13

The set is eerie and I love this. it’s so atmospheric

The problem with this bunch of faithfuls is that they are hopeless (not sure if it's because they are used to direction when doing a show, so are a bit lost, or are just useless) and they are up against a strong group of Traiitors. I suspect Alan was chosen to be a Traitor as they thought he'd be rubbish and give himself away (how wrong they were) but Cat might as well be holding up a neon siign saying "Jonathan is a Traitor" now and they still are not voting...

RainbowBagels · 24/10/2025 15:15

Surely now Stephens gone they have to vote for Jonathan. Hes the only ' Big Dog' left. Alan is hilarious!

Just a fan I think, SF does dinner speaking and hob nobbing events so finds him interesting Stephen is also a history buff so maybe Stephen has interesting conversations that appeals to David's ego. Iyswim.

IAmKerplunk · 24/10/2025 15:16

I just love the whole thing - and as frustrated as I am by only 2 episodes a week it is brilliant and a throw back to previous times when people talked about the latest episode of soaps etc because nobody can binge (abs I am a binger!) and nobody can watch it before anyone else- I love the thought that so many millions are sitting watching it at the same time.

I also think the producers thought Alan would be a crap traitor- to be fair I think most of us thought that 😂

CrimsonStoat · 24/10/2025 15:18

I've just remembered a snippet of conversation between Cat and I think Stephen.

They were talking about the number of traitors and he said some thing like "there's three isn't there?" and Cat nodded and replied "yes", yet Stephen never seemed to latch onto this.

Unless it's a total rule in the UK version that there's three.

IAmKerplunk · 24/10/2025 15:19

I think they have always started with 3 traitors haven’t they?

xsquared · 24/10/2025 15:21

Yes, they always start with 3 in the first episode.

Celiathebanshee · 24/10/2025 15:23

Did anybody else clock Alan's face as they went to the RT last night? He's grown so much since the sweating mess of day 1 🤣
