TRIE has talked about this as a flaw in the show's format, but the cleverest game-players (Nick?) have almost certainly worked out that there's literally no point in banishing a traitor at this point. You're much better off getting a useless Faithful (one who isn't adding to the prize pot) banished at this stage.

If they get Wossy out, what will happen? You swap one traitor you definitely know about for someone who until now has been playing as a Faithful. So you'll have absolutely no clues to go on from their behaviour, etc. (Though you can start looking at people at breakfast and think whose behaviour has changed drastically overnight - so there are things you can start to go on).

You may prevent one murder (if the remaining traitors recruit instead of murder once you get one out) but once they've recruited the murders will still continue until the endgame and if they clocked you were a good traitor-spotter then the next murder is more likely to be you. And you've still "lost" a faithful - there's one fewer faithful whether someone is recruited or murdered.

And if you're playing purely for the money (which I know the slebs aren't) then you're much better to end up in the final showdown with traitors you're fairly sure of making up a high percentage of the final group. Then (in theory at least) you can vote out the traitors and have a smaller number of faithful left to share the prize pot with.

ShowDownTime · 23/10/2025 09:43

Yes the preening of SF whenever they tell him he’s so clever makes me cringe. It’s a shame he’s not more self-effacing. I’d rather hear him make a joke of it and say “not much good at this game though, am I?”

Here’s something else I’ve been musing on: I’m sure all the contestants have watched every episode of every series to get a handle on the show and probably they’ve listened to all the podcasts and read the online chat too. So they’re going on quite armed with knowledge - you just would. So I think they all know that actually what matters is keeping yourself alive. Not being banished or murdered. Catching traitors might be fun because you’re curious and people get carried away with that and are determined to show how clever they are and that they’ve worked it all out - and every time it sees them either murdered or banished.

But the really smart ones know it doesn’t matter. What matters is not doing or saying anything that draws attention to you.

Even at the round table, they don’t need to vote for who they really think is a traitor. What they need to do is sense which way the wind is blowing and think how will my vote look to the traitors later when they’re deciding who to murder and tomorrow when my fellow faithfuls are deciding who to banish.

But maybe I’m being cynical!!

ShowDownTime · 23/10/2025 09:49

And just another thought of mine… I read an article about Claudia’s wardrobe cost and was shocked by the expense of it all. They’ll have spent as much on her clothes as they’ll be donating to charity at the end of it!

JoeMarlerseyes · 23/10/2025 09:49

I gave never been keen on SF. he might be educated, but he doesn't do much for the show. JW at least is entertaining.
SF uses a lot of long words, but thats about it.

It's a problem because they recruit, since they need to have X number of episodes and have to have a Traitor at the end. That's also why they do force recruit when they need to (ie, be recruited or get murdered now). If they just played the game with no recruitment then it wouldn't have these flaws, but then we might get a very short series!

Everyone thinks Fry is incredibly intelligent because of QI. Obviously he's clever but he really isn't this towering intellectual colossus.

I'm finding him much more likeable than usual on this, probably because he doesn't have the upper hand so he isn't being smarmy.

Well, or his strategy is keeping a back seat, not capitalising on his reputation for Sherlockian brilliance, being quiet and bumbling?

If so, it’s working, though in part because a lot of people seem to be implicitly buying the ‘big dogs’ theory and seeing him as the Uncrowned King of the Faithfuls.

Bit late to this thread so apologies if this has been done to death but is anyone else finding Stephen Fry insufferable and all the fawning about how he is the cleverest man in the whole universe, even more insufferable!!?

And don’t get me started on David - he’s not an academic so please will they stop with the “he’s so clever” wanging on. I did the same degree at the same university as him and no one fawns over me like I was Steven Hawking 😂

Davis is an academic. He is Professor of Public History at the University of Msnchester.

CaveMum · 23/10/2025 10:01

The point about statistically there ought to be at least one female Traitor is a good one, but remember that in UK S3 they were all female to begin with, so whilst unlikely it is possible that they could have an all male team.

Can I also give a bit more love towards Nick offering his arm to Celia when they are walking around the gardens, I’ve seen him do this on at least 2 occasions so far.

Coffeeishot · 23/10/2025 10:04

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 22/10/2025 23:09

Lucy is crap. Celia is crap and Kate is crap.

Why aren't they voting with their actual gut instincts?!
The big dog theory is correct. You know it's Jonathan, get him off!
Nick knows cat is a traitor, so put it forward.

FFS!

It is so frustrating isn't it, just vote for them stop faffing about 😡

CeliaFarts · 23/10/2025 10:06

Wasn’t UK S3 all female because there was so much criticism of the S2 “boys’ club”?

It’s a bit depressing that most of the murders have been women.

Coffeeishot · 23/10/2025 10:06

@CaveMum I saw Nick and Celia heading for the steps it was very sweet he seems such a lovely man i think I loves him 😀

Didn't Jonathan Ross also publish a countdown to how many days until Charlotte turned 16?

No.

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/10/2025 10:14

Yes, I agree with PP - no traitors have been voted off yet because the faithful aren't willing to do it yet. They are all concentrating on being people's friend and not arousing any suspicion. They don't want to risk making a big accusation and being wrong.

Joe M accusing Wossy is an example. He sets his stall out, no one really bites, he votes for someone else.

It is a bit of a flaw in the game format, as in it makes it more predictable for future series. I am sure a lot of the celebs have done their research and listened to the podcasts and have a play it safe until the last minute mindset. That's what following the herd at the round table is - playing it safe. I'm sure no one actually had any kind of inkling that Tameka was a traitor, for example.

I didn't work for Jaz in the last series though.

I do wonder a bit at how much research celebs do for shows, though. I watch Taskmaster, and it's very clear that some contestants have watched lots of it, and others haven't watched anything and fall for the most obvious tricks, don't know to look around for solutions, don't know that creative interpretations of the rules can be allowed, etc. And it reflects more on their personal reputation than Traitors I think, so if they can't be bothered to research for that, I don't know whether they would for this

speedtalker · 23/10/2025 09:32

The fawning over Stephen’s intelligence I’m finding bizarre. He’s not demonstrating anything useful using intelligence- Nick has been amazing solving puzzles and using logic to determine the ‘no of dives’ might be divisible by four (I take it they explained in the background that it was Olympic dives, as it didn’t say Commonwealth, world champs or anything)? David made a really eloquent and intelligent argument for why he wasn’t a traitor (I take it it’s stress that means logical arguments never seem to land at the round table). We’re not classicists, but we all immediately started reeling off who we could think died in R&J and Hamlet- wouldn’t that lend itself to Stephen’s strengths? I know Claire went mad and pulled the lever early, but I didn’t hear Stephen contributing much to that question. Just don’t understand the pedestalling of him.

To be fair it was Stephen who referenced the number of dives being divisible by 4 but he was overruled by Alan.

I think @Tootingbec meant SF isn't an academic so she is peeved at the academic David being all 'oh Stephen is a genius' nahh he's a cleverish, well educated bloke who had the ability to research before hand / have info at his finger tips /in ear during QI so appeared to know more than everyone else because they doing it without those prompts.

Exactly. And then she immediately deflected to David, I think.

Jonathan’s face was a picture while that was going on. You could see him thinking oh shit she’s turning on me and then the relief when she said but David Grin
