Murder mysteries

I’ve posted before about this but we’ve run out again. My autistic DD is 10 and loves a murder mystery. She likes a slow paced, English murder mystery series. She has just watched all of the Shakespeare and hathaways, death in paradise, beyond paradise, return to paradise, most of the BBC Sherlocks, patience, Ludwig. She has loved all of these and watches them on repeat! She loves sitting with me and DH to watch programmes like this but obviously the genre means lots of the series she’d like to watch she’s too young for. She doesn’t mind a bit of gore but too young to watch mature content in terms of sex etc so we often need to pre watch a series before she does.

can anyone recommend another series which is similar to these that we can watch together?

Agatha Raisin is fun.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 12/10/2025 18:53

Columbo

Foyle's War

If she reads then Patricia Wentworth's Miss Silver series was a forerunner of Miss Marple.

dd used to enjoy murder she wrote at that age

Ellmau · 12/10/2025 18:56

Castle

Monk if you can find repeats of it anywhere

Cornflowers35 · 12/10/2025 18:58

Mallorca Files.

It's not all murders though,

If you could stretch to New Zealand, she might enjoy The Brokenwood Mysteries- all on U&Drama.

My kids also enjoy watching cosy crime with me and we’ve done most of these suggestions.

Murder at Evensong has just started on ch5. Hetty Wainthrop Investigates is an oldy but a goody. Also Miss Marple.

I haven't seen it myself, but could Bergerac be any good?

Another vote for Mrs Bradley Mysteries.
Harry Wild.

I know you said English, but early Columbo is great. Slow paced, really intriguing and the sets and outfits are fabulous x

mogtheexcellent · 13/10/2025 19:40

Bit old fashioned but DD loves Murder She Wrote. Also good ship murder and sister boniface.

Mrs Bradley mysteries and Miss fisher can have a bit too much sex/fetishes for my liking. Waiting till she's a bit older for them.

For laughs have you watched the jonny Vegas coach series? Murder on Blackpool express, death on Tyne etc. Very funny!

Came here to say the same. Very similar to Death in Paradise and longer episodes too. 11 series to get thru which would keep someone going for a while. Also based in NZ but started in Australia is My Life is Murder starring Lucy Lawless. Finally from NZ, tho a bit more serious is A Remarkable Place to Die. They’re all on U.

ill also add The Chelsea Detective, the Marlow Mystery Club, Mrs Sindhu Investigates which I think have all been on U. And I’d add the Thursday Murder Club (film) which is on Netflix.

RampantIvy · 13/10/2025 20:01

Oh yes. I loved The Chelsea Detective.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 13/10/2025 20:03

Annika, with Nicola Walker. Been on U and BBC.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 13/10/2025 20:06

Darby & Joan! Best thing to do is download the U app and have a browse, there’s loads!
