Those who watched the Gold - May enjoy this

The killer of notorious gangster John "Goldfinger" Palmer is still unknown, and the murder remains unsolved. The Sky Documentaries series, The Essex Murders: Who Killed Goldfinger?, examines the case and the various theories surrounding the 2015 murder, including possible motives related to his criminal past and underworld dealings.

Key Details

  • The Murder: John Palmer was found shot six times in his Essex garden on June 24, 2015.
  • Unsolved Case: Despite the investigation, no witnesses or forensic evidence led to the killer, and the case is still open, reports Sky News.
  • Documentary Series: The Essex Murders: Who Killed Goldfinger? explores Palmer's life and the theories surrounding his death, including potential connections to his timeshare fraud and dealings with organized crime.
Theories and Suspects
  • Timeshare Scam: A key theory suggests Palmer was killed by a hitman to silence him before he could cooperate with Spanish authorities investigating the Tenerife timeshare racket, which conned thousands of people.

I'm loving it so far. Frustratingly, I can't seem to figure out when the next episodes are on. Any ideas, o wise ones?

RaraRachael · 05/10/2025 20:33

We've downloaded the next two. I just presumed they'd be on at the same time for the next 2 Saturdays

I gave up after the first episode. I deleted the second episode I recorded. I just thought, I really don’t care.
I’m not bothered.
I’d read about the theories, the drug cartel and the hitman.
He wasn’t a good man.
I didn’t want to waste another hour on him.
As they say, “If you lie down with dogs, you get fleas”
What did he expect after all he’d done - that he’d live out his latter years in peace and comfort.

ageingdisgracefully · 12/10/2025 11:07

I'm really enjoying it. I'm also reading a bio of Goldfinger, and I've found the documentary by Roger Cook in which he confronts Goldfinger about his money laundering activities. It's on YouTube.

I remember it all pretty well. Looking forward to the final episode.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2025 15:34

It’s def interesting

It's over. I'm bereft! Found the final episode a bit disappointing - inevitable I suppose. I wish they'd asked more questions about how Palmer was shot in the only place where there was no surveillance (ergo someone must've been familiar with his movements and his security setup, which suggests lots of prior surveillance to me). If the suggested hitman was surveilling before the shooting, wouldn't he have been seen and noticed from the nearby path?

Who ordered the killing I wonder? Must be plenty of candidates, but Palmer turning grass in anticipation of a reduced sentence makes some sense given his age.

It's almost comical how Essex police missed the bullet holes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2025 22:24

Guess will never know who orders the killing
