Both sets of parents are so awful the children probably never had a chance. Laurel's a perpetual teenager, has been finding herself for decades, and while Belly's dad (John, I think?) has an occasional moment of clarity he's so ineffectual he'd be better off not being there. And the whole stupid "still secretly sleeping together even tho we're divorced - but this is the LAST time!" shtick gets ooooooold. Adam just does whatever he wants regardless of who gets hurt and then thinks his "haw haw, what am I like, me?" bit is charming. And Susannah is the worst; she's like a one-woman pressure machine, practically planning all the children's weddings as soon as they pop out of the womb - especially Belly, who's not even her kid. She's so heavy on the gender and romance stereotypes it actually made me worry what would have happened if one of the kids turned out to be gay, or just not interested in getting married.
It is kind of funny that all of the "special" kids have totally normal, wise, sense-talking friends - not just Taylor and Stephen, who have their own dramas, but Agnes, Denise, Anika, and Gemma all seem to be there just to be the voice of reason when Belly, Conrad, and Jere are being extra ridiculous.
I have a mental block about the whole "both boys are supermodel gorgeous" thing because Jeremiah for some reason reminds me of a hobbit.
