Oh am liking the new Aliens series on Disney - written/directed by the guy who did the Fargo series (which I also loved).

Confess was a huge fan of the original Aliens movies (the first two in particular).

Have watched a few too many scandi noir/generic crime/ generic posh people thrillers etc recently so is a nice change. Not for the faint hearted but not as chilling as the films in my view.

Ooh is it the same Alien universe?

Watched the first one last night and I'm in. Very much in keeping with the Aliens creeping fear vibe but the added elements of what else is going on, on earth (no spoilers) makes it really interesting.

Yep. Takes place on Earth 2 years before he original Alien movie.

Just watched the first episode, a significant amount through my fingers and reaching for the cushions!
I loved how retro they made people look in keeping with the original. It’s really good even though I’m scared to see what’s coming next!

Watched the first two episodes and think its great. Like the fact that as well as the scary beasties there seems to be a good character narrative.

I am a big fan of the Alien films. I watched the first two episodes and quite liked it but there was something in it which I felt was not in keeping with the spirit of the Alien films and put me off.

I agree it's not as dark as the films - more a blend of Aliens with Blade runner/Ex-Machina etc.
But they're trying to get a wider audience so I can see why they've toned down the horror a bit, added humour, the kids perspective etc.

Am really enjoying it.

Actually I think it’s darker!

DH didn't like it because it was too tense! I liked the subtle(and not so) foreshadowing and nods to the original. Which remains probably the scariest thing I've seen at the cinema.(saw with a double bill with the Fog, almost empty theatre, no one would go to the loo alone!)

TooHigh · 28/08/2025 12:30

I like it but I find it hard to wait a week for each episode so I might wait and then watch the rest!

TaupeMember · 28/08/2025 12:38

I LOVE alien/ aliens!!!

This series totally does it justice, totally brilliant, everything about it.

Annoying its one episode a week but that just means I can watch the whole thing back to back again when the series has finished!

I'm loving it too. The performances are great, particularly like Slightly and Smee, they're very funny together.

And the furniture in Neverland, particularly the marmalade/brown armchair. Gorgeous.

Decisionsdecisions1 · 05/09/2025 16:32

Episode 5 has scared the pants off me.

Yes despite saying I would wait, I couldn’t wait. I actually watched episode 5 twice because there was so much I missed the first time. Was a captivating episode!

was the eye fighting with the other demon at one point? I wonder if they are meant to oppose each other

TooHigh · 10/09/2025 15:19

Just watched it now - I wonder what the sheep eye will do next?! It always seems to be pondering!

MonkeyTennis34 · 10/09/2025 15:28

Loving this series.
Some interesting themes in it….the boy wonder and all the power he yields and the use of AI but in conjunction with the human body.
The acting is excellent. Love the actor who plays Morrow, he was brilliant in They Hunt Alone.

billydilly · 10/09/2025 18:01

Loving it too. The best take on the franchise since Aliens. The ambition and scope is fantastic and I'm hugely invested in so many of the characters.

SpigTheFish · 10/09/2025 18:15

I so wanted to love this but I feel it's silly and childish, not frightening at all.

All the 'kids' are dim, not just young, the script is terrible and I hate the timeline jumping around.

The eye octopus is silly and the grubs are cartoon-like.

I love Babou Ceesay as Morrow though - outstanding performance - and I also rate the boy kavalier too.

TooHigh · 10/09/2025 19:47

I love Timothy Olyphant too - his cheek bones are immense

I'm watching it now and I love the eye octopus.

I just find it all quite immature and not at all frightening. I think I'm getting old as horror now just seems to amuse me.
