3-part documentary which seems to spell out the bleeding obvious and then never holds anyone to any account, never challenges a status quo, never provides any statistics or results, or apparently reach any conclusion. Confused Confused

Oh, and also the 'stars' that do appear just throw the absentees under the bus.

I watched it and was horrified by every aspect of it.

JudeyJudey · 16/08/2025 16:11

Yes! It's absolutely bizarre.

I'm surprised there's not much talk about it in here as it's number 1 at the moment.

I've never watched an episode of The Biggest Loser when it aired, but the idea of humiliating fat people for entertainment doesn't sit right with me. No wonder Joelle still holds a grudge against Bob.

Danny seems very happy as he is now but I can't help think maybe if he lost his weight in a less extreme way, he'd be inclined to want to maintain it.

With the increase in popularity of weight loss injections, there is no need for this sort of extreme practice, amd the show would not work today.

Oldglasses · 19/08/2025 10:35

It was very disturbing. I vaguely remember it being on in the UK, but maybe it wasn't taken to the extremes of the US version.

JudeyJudey · 19/08/2025 11:26

I don’t remember ever seeing it come out on telly. I had heard of it though. Used to do Gillian’s 30 Day shred off YouTube.

Yes, I thought she was The Jillian Michaels of the popular 30 Day shred. She doesn't seem very nice at all. Interesting that she declined to be part of the documentary. She also seems to have a lot to say against WLI, perhaps she's threatened what it will do to her business!

JudeyJudey · 19/08/2025 14:14

That’s the spelling!

Just watched it. I thought it was interesting that they had people with different opinions. It was good that they covered that the exercise bit was extreme and was all for the entertainment value.

Maybe not held to account enough, but I thought it was fairly balanced. I don’t like Jillian Michaels at all. The trainer that did appear was quite honey I thought about some of the limitations and perhaps what they got wrong.

HuskyNew · 21/08/2025 21:27

I used to watch this, must have been the noughties.

i thought the trainer died by suiicide a few years ago?

Did you watch the Netflix documentary?

You must be referring to the UK version of the show, as the documentary is based on the US version. Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels were the PTs on the show.

Edited

There was no need for it then either due to the existence of bariatric surgery.

JudeyJudey · 22/08/2025 06:18

Surgwry isn’t available to every obese person!

Yes. Im well aware of that.

But tell me, does the mention of bariatric surgery always make you so angry you couldn’t even write a sentence without an exclamation mark?

Calm down.

xsquared · 22/08/2025 08:06

Well, yes. Those who were fortunate enough to pay for bariatric surgery would not be the candidates desperate enough to go on the show to lose weight.

WLI on the other hand seems like a more popular medicated weight loss option, and less invasive than surgery.

Was the motivation for contestants to go on the show more to do with the money than weight loss, do you think? Take the money away, and I suppose there wouldn't be as many participants willing to be TV doing what they did.

I don’t know, does having your mistakes pointed out always make you such a passive aggressive dick?

Without wishing to be in the least bit passive aggressive - I think you need to see someone.

That was Angie Dowds, she did the UK one

I think I watched every episode of the American one, absolutely loved it. I remember rooting for my favourite contestant, it was so exciting seeing them loose lots of weight. I haven't watched the documentary yet and I'm have a feeling I'm not going to like what I see.

Oldglasses · 23/08/2025 21:50

I did the Shred about 13 years ago - it was amazing for weight loss & toning up!
