Didn't see a thread. Starts tonight.

There was a poll on the local BBC site asking if people were watching after the latest revelations and sackings. Views seem mixed many saying its part it's best and needs to go, others saying they'll still watch it only fair to the contestants and many saying they couldn't care less about the GW/JT situation.

Thanks for the shout but I think I am going to give this one a miss until it is Gregggg free zone.

murasaki · 06/08/2025 21:50

There was one particularly socially acceptable shot of Gregggg liking a dish and saying yum. I expect to see it edited into every episode from now on instead of what was actually filmed and will keep an eye out!

Davros · 06/08/2025 22:38

I’ve only just started watching tonight’s episode so I’ll go back and read the thread.
can I just say that the correct rhyming slang is Joddrell Bank

hattie43 · 06/08/2025 23:44

I watched it and enjoyed it . I feel JT has been thrown under the bus

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/08/2025 05:15

but JT made a racist comment that wasnt broadcast

soupyspoon · 07/08/2025 06:32

I dont believe for one second that John Torode is racist.

Totally thrown under the bus

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/08/2025 06:47

does seem a coincidence doesnt it

How do you know that , it’s all hearsay from one person. years ago . Even if he did which I doubt no-one should lose their job over a word .

Mayve · 07/08/2025 09:15

Yes poor John has definitely been thrown to the wolves - it seems a shame after a 20 year career to go down like this without any clear evidence of wrongdoing. I hope he can continue to find work.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/08/2025 09:31

Yes, I think he's collateral damage. One word eight years ago would usually be an apology, but it seems like they decided it was better to be shot of them both.

Fransgran · 07/08/2025 11:03

I have form for rooting for the underdog so I wondered if I would feel even a tiny smidge of sympathy for Gregggg. I'm happy to report that I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT! Milk of human kindness totally curdled. I don't think John Torode is a racist, just bit annoying and sometimes icky. Like most people. Especially men. I am so sorry that Mammy Potter is no longer with us. I feel we would have got along.

fourquenelles · 07/08/2025 11:37

Bugger missed it! Will catch up and then read your comments. So lovely to see you all here. Thanks for the poke @Halsall

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/08/2025 13:09

BBC article about the first episode saying critics think it was awkward and lacked pizzazz after the re-editing.

I can't say I noticed that, I think I actually preferred it with more focus on the food and contestants!

The viewing figures may have been impacted by the launch episode going out later in the year.

Oh God I do hope not! Couldn’t cope with that.

It was probably the most ok thing they could find....

Davros · 07/08/2025 13:31

Thanks @Halsall for including me. I will watch live tonight as DD is working.
I think John Torode was thrown to the wolves but I would have liked them to change both presenters a while ago anyway. I really like Andi Oliver but I wish they would be a bit more original in their casting and give these big gigs to less well known people

I'm not looking forward to Grace Dent. I'm deeply unimpressed by her writing as a replacement for Jay Rayner. Seems very superficial to me, lots of snarking abut restaurant decor, lots of citing names of dishes in their original language but little to say about the actual food and how it eats. I sometimes wonder if she just looks at the photos of food and doesn't actually eat it. No doubt I'm being unfair but I find her a bit unauthentic.

RomainingCalm · 07/08/2025 15:01

Thanks for the nudge @Halsall. I couldn't watch live yesterday but I'm all caught up now and will join you tonight.

I've said for a while that MasterChef needed a refresh and that JT's looked pretty bored at times over the last few series. That said, I don't want to see anyone thrown under the bus if, indeed, that is what's happened.

I just think she’s hard as nails, cant imagine her having much empathy with the contestants.

youreactinglikeafunmum · 07/08/2025 19:37

When i watched yesterday's one I was a bit confused, please could someone tell me if i'm wrong

I'm sure that, usually, there are three episodes dedicated to a group of 5 contestants?

Episode 1 - one goes
Episode 2 - they do their challenges at a real restaurant, and then one goes
Episode 3 - half an hour long Episode where they cook for previous contestants and one goes

But on yesterday's episode, it seemed like a week's worth of episodes in one episode???

fourquenelles · 07/08/2025 19:59

Checking in so I don't miss out again.
