For me its Alice Tinker from the Vicar of Dibley. She was the standout star for me 🌟 . Also James Dreyfus in The Thin Blue Line. Funniest character by a mile. Oh and Niles in Frasier 😍

Phil & Nige in Early Doors although Winnie comes a close second.

Winona Ryder in Stranger Things.

Kim Cattrall in Sex in the City.

I think Winona Ryder is the weak link in stranger things. She overacts dreadfully imo.

Petula (Julie Walter’s) in dinner ladies. She steals every scene she’s in, even in such a strong cast of brilliant characters.

Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Nuno Lupes as Boxer in White Lines.

Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders.

He is absolutely phenomenal, all my favourite parts of PB involve Alfie Solomons. Evil but utterly compelling.

I haven't watched it for a few years but Jeff in Coupling (played by Richard Coyle) was superb.

mustytrusty · 05/08/2025 23:07

Andrew Scott in Sherlock.

Margaret Thompson (Kelly McDonald) in Boardwalk Empire
Cookie Lyon in Empire (Taraji P Henson)
Daenerys Targaryen in GOT until the final!

from what ive read and the analysis it seems Daenerys was always ment to beome the mad queen, but that the transformation needed 2 or 3 seasons to explain it, and i think thats why the creator is not writing the last book because i guess that it would be his version too.

Swirlythingy2025 · 06/08/2025 00:16

Kim Cattrall in police academy

Swirlythingy2025 · 06/08/2025 00:17

Emily Cox and Mark Rowley as Breda and Finan in the Last Kingdom. Gustav Skaesgard as Floki in Vikings.
Recently Leah Byrne as Rose in Dept Q.

I was coming on to say that! Just saw an episode of Man About the House! Makes me sad to think of her personal struggles.

Janice Litman-Goralnik (née Hosenstein) in Friends also.

edited to add that wasn’t meant to bold!

Swirlythingy2025 · 06/08/2025 10:56

eddies wife from love thy neighbour

Scorchio84 · 06/08/2025 22:04

I am totally with you @EpsilonOne Danny Dyer as Fred was an eye opener!

Agree with others Christine Baranski steals everything she's in.. thank christ The Guilded Age has been given the go ahead for a fourth series

& yes Kim Catrell & Mario Cantone were always a delight

Tortielady · 06/08/2025 22:43

Alan Alda in The West Wing - absolutely wonderful in every scene.

Kathy Bates in Six Feet Under. Ditto - what a lovely, classy performance. I loved the way Bettina handles Sarah and her histrionics!

It's really hard to look at The Wire and single out any particular character/actor because it's so rich with talent, but Cedric Daniels/Lance Reddick (RIP) was so good. And taken far too soon.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 06/08/2025 23:12

Orla on Derry Girls, even when she's in the background she steals the scene.

Bubble in Absolutely Fabulous "is it a dwarf?" being said about Minnie Driver never fails to make me laugh.

Douglas in the IT crowd. For wearing Heather Mills infamous court outfit alone.

NeverTalksToStrangers2 · 07/08/2025 00:04

To me a show stealer can't be a main character (because it's their show, they aren't stealing anything), so it has to be a supporting character or a member of an ensemble cast.

Captain Holt in Brooklyn 99 (RIP Andre Braugher).

So many of the cast from Modern Family are just excellent but Cam is probably the best. Matthew Perry in friends.

Ardal O'Hanlon in fr ted. I go against the grain by actively disliking the Mrs Doyle character (it's the same joke, over and over).

Alan Rickman in everything.

Kinda niche, as I don't think many people watched it and it got cancelled after 2 seasons, but Olivia Munn was incredible in Newsroom.

And it's not acting, but Claudia Winkleman is such a good traitors host.
