I think this thread may take longer to fill than the last one.

Hope everyone is safe from the storm over there.

My sleep is still all over the place so I watched the end of Ben/Flavio. They both were wearing the same pink kit which was a bit confusing at times. Ben’s dad shouted something about vertical work at him which seemed to do the trick while I was trying to figure out what he was on about! Flavio was not happy with Ben at the net and they were having a big conflab before Flavio left the court. I think maybe he thought Ben was over celebrating his shots or something but even the commentators didn’t know what was going on. I could hear Flavio saying we are friends and he looked very upset. Despite that he gave his racquet to a little boy on the way out which was really sweet.

ChessieFL · 04/08/2025 11:56

I haven’t managed to see any of the Canada tournaments - combination of being away for work and the time difference.

Hope your eye is OK Jane. I’ve had loads of floaters for years and I’m just used to them now and hardly notice them unless looking at something bright. Definitely need to get new ones checked though!

Raahh · 04/08/2025 12:41

Jane I got a bit wet walking the dog. It's hard to tell whether the rumblings I am hearing are thunder/planes or people moving their wheelie bins.

What ever it is - I'm staying in. Grin

It's a shame if Ben and Flavio's match ended on a sour note .

I stopped watching ADF/Andrey’s match after the second set and was surprised to see that ADF retired shortly afterwards - hopefully it’s nothing serious.

Looks like all the remaining rounds in Canada are going to be overnight UK time now.

MajesticWhine · 04/08/2025 19:48

Yes - It’s annoying big how late the matches are now. Just got home from holiday and would like a nice evening watching tennis.

kazzaD66 · 05/08/2025 20:15

Having seen snippets on SM, still not sure what the Shelton/Cobelli 'thing' was about. I'm sure James Keothavong had it all under control though Grin

Talking of umpires, DS showed me a clip of Mo catching a stray ball during someone's match, whilst sitting courtside. It's the Mo Show even when he's not umpiring Hmm Adel Nour, who was in the chair, gave a wry smile Grin

Good to see Cash/Glasspool and Salisbury/Skupsi in the semis. Would be good if it was an all British final!

Raahh · 05/08/2025 20:59

I am really hoping the doubles pairs do well. Particular shout out for Joe and Neal- always liked Joe.

Djok has withdrawn from Cincy. What a shameHmm . Although from his point of view (and probably why he's done it) he's nothing to defend points wise, and would probably only have been beaten if he'd played.

Raahh · 07/08/2025 04:36

Joe and Neal have won, so it's an all British doubles final. Bit of a upset ( if it can be called that at this stage)- Karen beat Sascha.
Gauff and Kessler win the doubles final earlier.
Victoria Mboko is into the final- against Osaka. Mboko has had a very good week.
Still can't get my head around these 2 week masters though.

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 07/08/2025 08:15

And I see Shelton beat Fritz aswell.

I'd like to watch the doubles final, if I can. Whenever I've seen snippets of the doubles this week, there's been not much more than 3 men and a dog watching, so hope the Canadians get off their arses and watch tonight! I feel sorry for doubles players playing in front of a handful of spectators!

Raahh · 07/08/2025 08:49

Ben had just won the first set when I posted earlier, I wasn't sure how that match would go really.

It is a shame the doubles isn't better attended.

JaneJeffer · 07/08/2025 11:56

Sascha is not a fan of two weeks either. This was long before he got beaten by Karen so not sour grapes!

JaneJeffer · 07/08/2025 12:01

I was surprised at the score in the Shelton/Fritz match. I expected it to be much closer. Ben seems to be playing at a higher level now.

Raahh · 07/08/2025 15:35

Jane I don't think the 2 week masters have been popular at all. I suppose they give opportunies to lower ranked players to get into the big tournaments /get ranking points/ make more money. That should be a good thing. But they seem very badly managed. Plus the scheduling doesn't seem to help the players at all.
And now we have finals on a Thursday.

OP posts:
Raahh · 07/08/2025 17:15

Even more confusingly, first round matches (not qualifying, actual first round) have started in Cincy- so the tournaments overlap.

So, first up, is Fonseca/Bu Fonseca has lost the first set. but is up a break in the second.

I saw the quallies were on yesterday but Sky didn’t show any of them which was annoying as I needed some tennis to soothe my soul AngryGrin

kazzaD66 · 07/08/2025 22:25

Ffs!! The lack of spectators watching the doubles final is insulting to the players.

And Rusedski and his co-commentator have got verbal diarrhoea Hmm

kazzaD66 · 07/08/2025 23:56

Well done Julian and Lloyd, 4 titles in a row. But I wanted Neal and Joe to win Sad

ChessieFL · 08/08/2025 03:57

I see Victoria Mboko won her final. That’s a great win for her and lovely to win on home turf!

kazzaD66 · 08/08/2025 09:32

Apparently, the crowd watching the men's final in Toronto celebrated so loudly to the news of her win, it interrupted the match!

Raahh · 08/08/2025 09:33

I wanted Joe and Neal to win too Sad Joe just can't seem to get over that final hurdle this past year or so. But well done to Lloyd and Julian.
Excellent result for Victoria- and yes, even more special to do it on home turf.

Lots happening later in Cincy- but Naomi Cavaday ( I think it was her, commentating for Sky) needs to stop withthe 'I'm calling it the Fearnley Court ' or the 'Boulter Court' schtick whenever a Brit is due to play.

They both lost.

So maybe knock that on the head, it's the kiss of death Grin.

(If Djok comes back for for the US open, she can call all the the courts the Djokovic court, if she wants to, though).

Well done to all the Canada champions. What a huge moment for Victoria Mboko.

Fizzywinegum · 08/08/2025 16:52

We’ll done to Ben and Victoria - amazing win for her

I’ve been a bit fed up of not being able to watch any tennis this week - I’m watching a bit of Cincy now but I still don’t really understand why the Canadian finals were on a Thursday and why Cincy had already started before Canada had finished Confused

kazzaD66 · 08/08/2025 18:24

The scheduling is ridiculous fizzy
Last night, DS* *thought it was the weekend because the Canadian finals were being played Grin
And overlapping two 1000 events is just ridiculous!

Raahh · 08/08/2025 18:53

The whole thing has totally messed with my head. I've no idea what day it is anymore. Grin.

OP posts:
ChessieFL · 08/08/2025 19:08

I’m especially confused because I had a day off today so I keep thinking it’s Saturday.
