The latest from Lena Dunham. I loved Girls. This is about an American young woman in London. I love the lead she was in Hacks. And there’s loads of people in it I recognise. I just can’t stand the bloke she’s fallen for in it. Has anyone tried to watch it? I’m up to episode 3 then I will decide if I’m going to continue.

I got half way through episode 2 and was bored. Shame, I wanted to like it too as seemed quite light and easy watching

EachandEveryone · 12/07/2025 20:07

It’s too talky isn’t it?

It's awful. I've given up half way through episode 2 as well. The sex scenes are excruciating - no chemistry at all between the two leads.

EachandEveryone · 12/07/2025 22:24

I feel like she is trying to repeat aspects of girls. The sex scenes make me cringe as well and I don’t know if it’s because I’m much older now and have got more prudish. I also can’t watch violent stuff any more!

I really like it! Love the guy too. They remind me of the 30+ year olds I work with.

Almightyboosh · 14/07/2025 11:28

I wasn't impressed with the 1st episode either! He was not the right choice I don't think, even though I love him in other shows I've seen him in.

SpiceGhoul · 14/07/2025 11:32

I watched it all, it was OK but I thought the main characters acting was terrible. I hated the ending too, both sisters forgiving and staying with their cheating partners was so disappointing for me. I especially wanted Lena Dunhams character to realize her worth and refuse to have him back. The scene where she's crying in bed and her mum is comforting her was really touching and I just felt she deserved a better ending than just taking him back.

Custark · 14/07/2025 19:02

I’m on episode 3. It’s really lacklustre. The main characters’ banter with each other comes across as low key droning.

Givemebackmygirlhood · 14/07/2025 19:17

I am halfway through episode three and feel the same. I was so excited about it and was sure I was going to love it. I just don’t.

EachandEveryone · 14/07/2025 22:03

Thanks for the spoilers 😀 I don’t think any of us has had the stamina to get through it yet so maybe we should thank you @SpiceGhoul

i suppose it’s not for my age group as I can’t relate. I do clearly remember going for those deep thinking creative lazy Jeff Buckley wannabes though and getting my heart broken several times. I think the indie music is too modern or obscure? Please correct me if I’m wrong. If it had more recognisable indie music then I might’ve had more interest. I’ve just watched episode 3 which I think was quite realistic. I hope she rang in sick!

It's terrible. I watched to halfway through episode 2. It's so desperately trying to be funny but it's not at all. It's cringy.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 14/07/2025 22:28

Exactly the same as @SunflowerLife . Really really didn’t enjoy it or warm to it.

SpiceGhoul · 14/07/2025 22:50

@EachandEveryone whoops sorry I do seem to be the only one who managed to sit through it! I think it's aimed at women in their 30s from interviews and things I have read.

I was a huge fan of Girls when it was released in my early 20s so was really looking forward to and hoping for something similar but this really wasn't it.

EachandEveryone · 15/07/2025 00:06

After the third one it gets better. So many big names in it, actors I follow and who have all worked with Lena before I think that’s why I’m so dissatisfied. At least it’s realistic though and shows the real side of London.

We switched off after episode 2. I was so excited to try it, but just couldn’t get into it.

EachandEveryone · 29/07/2025 19:27

Well I watched it all and it does get better. I didn’t like the ending though because I thought he was a miserable so and so. Dis anyone watch it all?

OP posts:
SpiceGhoul · 30/07/2025 00:04

I did watch it all (as I've already said 😅) and am still disappointed in the ending. I have since rewatched Girls and it's just as good, if not better than I remember. Watched all 6 series in the last fortnight 😅. I think I expected too much from Too much because Girls was so good but it just doesn't compare! I highly recommend anyone who hasn't seen it gives it a watch!

EachandEveryone · 30/07/2025 05:27

I also might rewatch. There’s no comparison. Both leads just aren’t likeable. The ending was ridiculous. He hasn’t got two pennies to rub together and is work shy. I don’t know what Lena was thinking. She is so amazing. I think she was fantastic in it.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/07/2025 05:38

oh i didnt like it,
i watched a few because i like Will Sharpe
and then i wizzed through to the last episode because of Andrew Scott

EachandEveryone · 30/07/2025 09:30

Andrew Scott is great in everything. Such a beautiful man. I couldn’t stand it and put myself through it to see how it ended. I wonder if there will be another season?

it was deffo a vehicle for her husbands band his music popped up now and again. I loved that Taylor Swift song. I didn’t know she sang music like that.

so many great actors! Jennifer Saunders basically playing Edwina!

the wedding reminded me of Saltburn now I’m wondering if that’s how toffs really carry on?😀

mambojambodothetango · 30/07/2025 12:15

I really like it. I think it's a pretty realistic portrayal of how some relationships work, especially in current times. They fill in each others' emotional gaps. I think it's charming.

jay55 · 30/07/2025 13:20

Gave up during the dinner at Richard E Grant’s house, it was too much for me. I really wanted to like it. But I just can’t do that level of cringe anymore.

XiCi · 31/07/2025 12:34

I've just managed to finish it despite the lead actor. She was such a bad actress and so annoying that I struggled to watch it, which was a shame because everyone else was good in it. The difference in her acting ability and Will Sharpe's was so pronounced it was almost like I was watching 2 different shows. Hacks was on my watch list so finding out she's in that has really put me off watching.

EachandEveryone · 31/07/2025 12:42

I think she’s great in Hacks but I’m wondering if she’s a one trick pony? You must watch Hacks the lead is incredible. It’s a great feel good show.
I didn’t like the boy friend I’ve met so many like him in my twenties and often wondered if they ever grew up. It’s like their in some time warp. I think they were too old for it. I’m guessing they were early thirties if she’d live with someone for seven years.

Newsenmum · 07/10/2025 20:33

Ive found it pretty funny in parts but Im also not ‘enjoying’ it. I cant stand the lead. They are both toxic and shouldn’t be together. I dont see how they are in love.
There are great parts to it though and interesting writing. I just think standards are so high.
