Forsyte Saga TV series (2002)

I realise I’m very late to the party here but I’ve just finished watching this on Netflix. I love historical fiction and TV drama’s so not sure how I missed it at the time. I’m guessing it was because I was still quite young and it looked a bit dull. I’ve really enjoyed it and would love to discuss the characters with any other fans. I’ve also noticed that they are filming a remake of the series and think it will be released later this year. I wonder if the new cast will live up to expectations after “getting to know” the previous cast so well.

Sorry to derail yet again but he was incredible in Band of Brothers. I hated FS and only watched it because he was in it.
Id watch him watch paint dry 😳.

absolutely brilliant. Damian Lewis' acting was superb. The whole thing was actually. Bereft.

Loved the early naughtiest series. Not read the books or watched the 60s series.

I watched the 1967 (?) series and the rape was quite graphic and shocking. It only occurred to me watching the 2002 one recently that Man of Property referred to Soames's belief that he could own Irene too. To be fair I was only 12 in 1967.

I read the first book recently and I never understood why Irene married Soames.

Yes, I know that her father had died and left her with no money, and that Soames kept on and on asking her until she agreed. But, she is a magnet to men, there were many who would have married her, even without a dowry. Why marry the one man who physically repulses you?

I suppose she was young and quite sheltered so didn't realise how attractive to men she was.
