This is a bunch of things I have watched in the last year or so, and although they are a mix of comic, dark-comic, and drama, there are some loose themes in that they are often 40s or thereabouts women. Grief features in several of them. Often an element of self-discovery or life change. Kathryn Hahn crops up a fair bit! I'm struggling to get into something else, can anyone suggest something, please So, I liked (to varying degrees):

Tiny Beautiful Things, One Mississippi, I Love Dick, Somebody Somewhere, Mrs Fletcher, Younger, Divorce, Fleishman is in Trouble.

I've had a period of watching other types of stuff in the last few months, but find myself looking for things closer to the above again now. Probably reflecting what's going on in my own life!

Have you watched Somebody Somewhere? Ticks a lot of your boxes - 40 something female lead, comedy drama, grief, life change. It’s lovely.

I loved Somebody, Somewhere. It was just great, perfect television. Maybe I'll go back to that start and rewatch.

I might do the same @WomanWhoSitsByTheWindow!

The lost flowers of Alice Hart on prime is a good drama with Sigourney Weaver as the lead.

I also loved The Way Home but I don't know where to watch in the UK. Andie McDowell is the lead.

Nobody Wants This, Shrinking (men and women but a comedy strong grief theme). 100% agree about Somebody, Somewhere and I may well start a whole rewatch from the start too.

Working Moms

Posted before I was finished.

anyway…comedies:

working moms is all about 40ish women and their kids/lives/families…very funny

Crazy Ex-girlfriend and Parks & Rec both have female leads and are hilarious

Lucifer is spectacular and although it is a male lead, his co-lead is female and the strongest cast members are the women tbh.

more serious shows:
9 perfect strangers
big little lies

MyMyDelilah · 07/07/2025 14:20

Bad Sisters on Apple was brilliant

Boreded · 07/07/2025 14:21

I can’t even believe I forgot Good Girls

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 07/07/2025 14:22

Came to say Parks And Rec but was beaten to it

GrumpySparkler · 07/07/2025 14:26

The Change on Channel 4 is excellent.

Fisk - Aussie sitcom about a lawyer who heads back to her home city and starts in a new law firm. Dealing a little with the death of her mother, her divorce and her dad's marriage to his (male) law clerk. Was on Netflix, not sure now.

Have you tried We Are Ladyparts? It is about a punk band made up of Muslim women. The band members are all very different and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/07/2025 06:05

I love such Brave girls

Loveduppenguin · 08/07/2025 06:13

Oh I’m loving the sound of all these!!

eleanorwish · 08/07/2025 06:23

I enjoyed ‘Dead to me’, a dark comedy about 2 women who bond in group therapy. It was Christina Applegate’s last role before she gave up acting due to her MS

Steelworks · 08/07/2025 06:27

Apples Never Fall - drama about a family discovering their rosy life isn’t so rosy after the mother goes missing.

LionWings · 08/07/2025 09:30

Frayed is another Australian comedy which is good
