I can't find another thread about this one. But I'm in pieces after watching this, this one was close to the heart and it defies belief that all these years later the government/ companies involved have all but washed their hands of trying ro achieve any true meaningful outcome to the inquiry that took place. RIP.

Give it watch- it needs to stay current.

Dont you have to have a heart to have a heart attack?!!

Well, that’s very true!

Agreed. And to think that disgusting fat bastard got appointed to the House of Lords AFTER all of this. Words fail me. He should be in prison.

I'm hoping a public outcry might lead to some action much like with the Post Office scandal.

The 'Grenfell housing minister' just got a top job in social housing

It shows no 'compassion or humanity'

It’s a really hard watch. I got to the part where a mum and baby were trapped in their flat on the phone to one of the rescuers and the baby was crying, then a while later she said the baby was dead and not to rescue her anymore. At that point I couldn’t continue

This part had me sobbing and has been on my mind ever since. Just awful

DoYouReally · 24/06/2025 22:47

Just watched this and so many failures it's difficult to know where to even begin.

I know accidents happen but this was completely avoidable, preventable at some many stages. Residents and their families must be so so angry about the lack of accountability.

I don't know how nobody swung for Pickles in that court room. What an absolute pompous prick - completely devoid of all human empathy and decency. Couldn't give a shit about anything but himself.

Heartbreaking as are the rest of the Grenfell stories.

Gavin Barwell certainly DID have a 'unique perspective'!
Otherwise known as 'Didn't give a s**t!
Pickles & Barwell should both face criminal/civil charges & sacked for their complete callousness & inhumanity!
Absolutely disgusting!

I live fairly locally to Grenfell. There is still a huge amount of entirely justified anger and frustration in the local community. Not sure I can bear to watch the documentary (but know I ought to).

JenniferBooth · 25/06/2025 19:10

There is NO accountability in the whole of the social housing sector. No accountability at all.

piper321 · 25/06/2025 20:32

Just watched this today - absolutely shocking and I am still in disbelief that this happened.

even more angry at those companies and top job people not being held accountable!!

Inmyownlittlecorner · 25/06/2025 20:47

It’s a really hard watch. I currently live in flat in central London that still hasn’t had our cladding removed. The next 18 months is the latest estimate

CandidLurker · 29/06/2025 19:55

Just watched. Appalling. No words for Eric Pickles. One thing I don’t understand is how the “stay put” advice came into being. I’ve worked for lots of different companies in my lifetime and watched all the fire safety videos etc. the advice is when the fire alarm goes you must leave straightaway and go to the designated meeting point. Are the rules for commercial premises somehow different? No-one mentioned any fire alarms going off.

hayfeverforever · 29/06/2025 20:08

i couldn’t believe they were told to stay in the flats. Shocking

Yes indeed. They followed what they were told to do.

shirlem · 29/06/2025 20:58

It's very very sad and something that could have been avoided, it's crazy to think it was just a small kitchen fire. Very scary for anyone living in tower blocks

The stay put advice is because flats are designed to keep fire contained for a decent period of time - enough time to put an individual fire out without it spreading. They didn't anticipate the fire spreading via the cladding and not remaining where it started.

I sobbed and sobbed, those poor people.
It wasn't a tragic accident it was murder in my book, for the sake of a few quid.
I really don't understand why they don't just prosecute ALL of them, they are obstructing justice and acting like small children squabbling, charge the lot and give the survivors huge payouts, that won't help their trauma but will certainly make lives easier for the future.

Eric Pickles is an absolute disgrace.

And he was appointed to the House of Lords afterwards, utterly disgraceful.

Decapitatedsausage · 30/06/2025 11:31

I’m watching this now and can’t stop sobbing. So many horrific and devastating stories. The woman and her baby, the firefighter who apologises to the family he couldn’t save in flat 175 because he was looking for the young girl in flat 176. I’m lost for words, such a tragedy.
