This thread is for those who have already seen Dept Q in its entirety and want to discuss the plot, as I know that the other thread is still getting new viewers.

OK, now that I've seen it all, we're still non
the wiser about who shot Mork, Hardy and Anderson.

I am loving Akram and want to know what he did in Syria!

Doesn't Elsa and Ailsa sound practically the same?

Not to Scottish people I/ don't think. Elsa is like the e in 'bell' and Ailsa is ail-sa, or ayl-sa.

My excuse is that I wasn't paying full attention to this whilst it was on and daren't ask my DH too often "who's that again?" but it did confuse me a bit. There were some good scenes and it was well acted but the lead character was a bit of a dickhead. Love Akram and expected him or Rose (?) to cop it as more sympathetic characters often do. As for the lodger, he needs to get back to the corner shop in Still Game!
The final episode got very violent. I felt maybe too many people getting their heads caved in when shooting them would have done! And as for holding someone captive all those years in a hyperbaric chamber - why, just why?

So the policeman from mhor knew that Lyle and his mum had killed or thought they had killed M four years ago?? Why didn’t he tell anyone? How did he find out? That part really confused me.

The way they were acting I thought it was implying that the policeman was Lyle’s father. They never said it outright though

Your last paragraph sums it all up really!!

Yes!! It made me feel so old, because I kept thinking things like, "ooh gosh just imagine their utility bills"

Am I right in thinking the actor playing older Lyle was a rookie doctor in Casualty a few years ago?

cryptide · 28/06/2025 09:50

I think Carl recognised her in the lift at the end but decided (for once) not to centre himself and make her have to deal with a conversation with him.

Yes, that's was what I thought. She obviously hadn't recognised him, it would have been quite awkward to buttonhole her and say "I led the investigation, that was me getting you out and taking a shot in the process, come and thank me". Though it would have been nice if she had somehow been told that it was Akram who pushed for her case to be investigated, not Moira.

Rollergirl11 · 08/06/2025 10:03

Also doesn’t make sense that Moira has said that Morck isn’t allowed to investigate his own shooting but is going to give the case to Hardy, despite it being his own shooting also.

I didn't think that was what she was saying? I thought she was just saying he could take charge of another cold case.

But I thought she had gone into the station to thank whom ever was in charge of her case, and was told she had missed them?
He may have decided not to make himself known to her, but wasn't that why she was there

I agree, I liked the characters but the plot stretched belief a lot.
For me it was unbelievable than Merritt’s brother was just let out from a council run care home to the dodgy private care home run by the creepy manager, his house and belongings were just left to rot and the manager was allowed to have total control over his finances while also delivering his care.
Oh also he was restricted from receiving visitors but easily ran out of the home, and there was no alert raised to the police, no search started for him?
i don’t know much about the care sector in Scotland or maybe Denmark were the books are set but it can’t be that casual!

ColdHenrietta · 04/07/2025 16:37

It’s true that the lack of oversight of their house seemed unlikely. Whoever was in charge of the brother’s assets would surely have made sure it was preserved, or sold.

That was the most unbelievable part of the whole thing for me.

Yes. and he was Ashley Jensen's brother in Shetland

HollyBerri · 04/07/2025 23:50

I thought i had missed an episode as there was so many plot holes/ unanswered threads in the last episode. Can someone explain what Merrits boss had to do with anything.
i thought it was Implying he was behind Morks shooting but i didn’t understand what he had done. Did we ever find out what happened?
i did enjoy it though.

Zempy · 19/07/2025 10:58

I couldn’t understand why Lyle came back to the chamber? He and his psycho mum shut everything down and covered it all up, leaving Merritt to die.

Why did he decide to come back? Did I miss something?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/07/2025 11:23

were they found? i cant remember

Zempy · 19/07/2025 12:04

As I recall, Lyle just suddenly showed up, ages after we thought he had left with mummy.

JellyBeanSpring25 · 19/07/2025 12:31

Finished it last night and overall, enjoyed it as a drama and not a documentary!

I thought Ailsa was the care home manager in a wig for a couple of episodes until we started to see her in her caravan.

The scene in the last episode where Morck & Akram were driving on Morh was like a car scene from the 70s with the moving scenery behind. Very cheaply done!

Looking forward to next series although it’s not yet been confirmed.

postitnot · 23/07/2025 07:18

I really enjoyed it, but just wanted to come on here to say that they were completely the wrong pliers for her to remove her tooth with. But willing to suspend belief (a bit)

CrushingOnRubies · 10/08/2025 22:17

Just finished watching

yes why didn’t Merritt recognise Sam/ Lyle’s eye. Sure she commented on his eye at the hotel?

who investigated Sam/ Lylle’s rock climbing incident. The tracks of blood were pretty obvious. And a rock bludgeoning by hand display different injuries to falling off a cliff.

yes the more seeing a therapist storyline was not needed.

really hope there’s a second series

mrsnjw · 11/08/2025 05:21

His eye injury happened as a young adult in the prison. She didn’t know him when he had his injury.
