Sirens on Netflix

With Julianne Moore is just fab. It’s daft and light weight. It’s quite like White Lotus but then that could be because one of the leads in season 2 is in it. Oh, and Kevin Bacon 😀 I don’t want to praise it too much as I will give the story away, it’s worth watching though. Only five episodes www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2025/may/22/sirens-review-julianne-moore-cult-drama-netflix

I liked it. They were all running around in Lilly Pulitzer dresses, like something out of Palm Beach, Florida in the 1960s.

There were a bunch of men blaming their actions and feelings on the women they were obsessed with.

Also the cool, lovely, ever suffering, hen-pecked man who is actually a useless shit making his partner look like the bad guy and forcing her to do all the adulting. You see this a lot. Not just with rich people.

It was fun. I enjoyed the acting, wardrobe, scenery. Found the blurry close ups / shifting focal length a bit hard to watch at times. All three of the female leads were great imo.

Overall not as good as Riviera with Julia Stiles though and I slightly longed for that depth of character evolution and the twists and turns.

I really enjoyed it. Binge watched this afternoon

I watch with DD (aged 24) and we enjoyed it and have talked about it loads-

I loved the clothes and sets and houses and things-how they defined ppl status etc by their clothing so this is an interesting article

I think as soon as Bruce said to Simone "it's just you and me" she then would have done anything to escape her past and was able to compartmentalise her life in such a way that she was able to step into Kiki's life without a backward glance.

The father’s abuse of Simone, her big secret, was hinted at in the conversation about her resembling her mother (I thought) and then became clear in the final episode. I’d thought throughout that her hatred of him and fury at his arrival on the island was about more than not having enough food, clean clothes or supervision after Devon left home, and needing to be fostered. Those things are very serious of course, but most adults can find a way to come to terms with them and maybe - maybe! - forgive. But abuse is different.

The thought of losing her job when she’d done nothing wrong and having to return to Buffalo was so distressing that she told Peter about Kiki’s “insurance policy” photos, knowing that he was attracted to her and possibly ready to trade in Kiki after 13 years. This coincided with the return of his estranged children plus the baby, so Simone knew that for him it probably felt like the right time to get rid of Kiki, whom his children despised.

I thought this ending was great and I didn’t see it coming.

Really like your take on it @Teado - all good points.

Spoiler

I thought the bit when it became clear that the dad had abused simone (not just neglet ) and the thought of having to be with him alone prompted her to run along the beach was really powerful - but was not sure whether she was calling to Peter or vice versa?

I thought it was the foster parents who abused Simone?

overall it was bingeable and fill of pretty people and lovely clothes. The ending was very ott. I still assumed they were magical! Simons said to Ray on the beach “I gave something to tell you” which became “he told me he loved me” afterwards. I am sure I saw a woman in white dress running across the grass and into the forest one episode but nothing came of that.

zero need for season 2. But I’d watch it anyway. Meghan was my favourite in bold type too.

CrushingOnRubies · 25/06/2025 20:17

What a bizarre ending. Really hope there’s a second series

Notsurewheretoturn · 14/07/2025 20:36

So Simone wasn't as innocent as she came across? It's like Kiki moulded her and then she screwed her over ! Kiki was odd but don't think she deserved that. Maybe Simone planned it all ??

SheilaFentiman · 23/07/2025 23:00

Poor Devon 💔

WasherWoman25 · 21/09/2025 21:27

Bringing this back up as just finished watching it.

Did anyone else have a moment of thinking KiKi was actually their mum who hasn’t died but somehow escaped and had taken Simone in to look after her?! During the scenes with the Dad in episode 4?

I wasn’t a fan of the ending. Expected a huge twist but not that.

I know what you mean. Maybe not their mum but somehow knew the sisters like the mums best friend or something or from a past life almost

Yes it was very strange and then no further explanation. I guess could just be showing that she wasn’t a monster and was really lovely with him being ill.

Bumping again as I've just finished watching.

I enjoyed it but didn't love it, but I'm thinking I'm quite hard to please with TV these days. For me it was very style over substance and notably similar to The Perfect Couple, along with the dope smoking main character husband.

At times I found it really slow, as is so often the case with these lavish Netflix dramas - padded out with lots of lingering long shots, scenery, beaches, Julianne Moore's face etc. The comedy was falling flat for me early on, but I really enjoyed episode 4 and actually thought it was going somewhere from then on.

I liked the twisty ending, especially that the Kevin Bacon character was not the lovely chill dude he'd portrayed so brilliantly. He certainly pulled the wool over my eyes.

I loved Jose! It only took a little while to forget what a monster Felix Solis played in Ozark Grin.

Overall a 7 out of 10 from me I reckon.
