LONG BRIGHT RIVER - sun 18th ch 4 at 10&11pm - TV PACE NO SPOILERS

8 part drama over 4w (I think) with 2 episodes on weekly on Sunday night at 10&11pm on ch 4

Seyfried leads as Mickey, a police officer in Philadelphia who is patrolling a neighbourhood that has been hit hard by the opioid crisis.

The series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Long-Bright-River-intense-thriller/dp/1786090619/?tag=radtim0b-21&ascsubtag=radiotimes-2232634) by Liz Moore, and follows Mickey as she investigates a string of murders that have eerie ties to her own personal life.

Showrunner Nikki Toscano said of the series: "Liz Moore’s breathtakingly beautiful story about a patrol cop on the hunt for her missing younger sister in the midst of a series of murders in Kensington, Philadelphia, was as compelling in its family drama as it was in its murder mystery.

"I immediately knew it was something I wanted to take a crack at translating to screen with Liz.

The challenge of adapting this moving love story between two sisters as it elegantly weaves between the past and the present was thrilling, particu
larly as the history of this family’s past holds a critical key in solving the murder/mystery that unfolds in the present.

The synopsis for Long Bright River reads: "Long Bright River tells the story of Mickey (Seyfried), a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighbourhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis.

"When a series of murders begins in the neighbourhood, Mickey realises that her personal history might be related to the case."

From the looks of the trailer, Mickey is devoted to her work as a police officer but soon realises that the string of murders happening could have links to her sister, who seems to disappear regularly – but this time, things could be very different.

In the guise of a whodunit, Long Bright River is an unflinching portrayal of a broken America, and a powerful tale of two sisters, scarred by life and torn apart by tragic circumstances.

I’ve learned my lesson AGAIN - record the season initially.
I didn’t so have probably missed them on tv. 🙈😡🥲

Nor do I care @IcedPurple
I’ve deleted it. Shame as sounded so promising. I wonder if eight episodes was just too many so was a bit ploddy.

Yes, and the episodes are an hour long (including ads) so that really is a bit of a slog.

Casey and Micky just aren't that interesting and the constant hints of some dark secret are getting boring. As I say, I'll give it one more episode and then decide whether to carry on or not.

NewAgeNewMe · 21/05/2025 16:58

I was naughty and skipped to the last episode. I found I didn’t care about it then either!

martinisforeveryone · 21/05/2025 18:02

I'm at odds with everyone else then. I watched the lot and really enjoyed it.

Halfway through episode 4 of this right now. It's pretty good so far, and yes what an awful, deprived area! Shows what a curse drugs are too.

Good so far, but OMG that kid (Mickey's son,) can't half moan and whinge. Good grief! 😆"I want a playstation, I want to see our cousins every other day, I want to stay in the $2000 a month school, I want to see my real dad, you're lying about the school you went to, all the other kids at school have cellphones! wah wah wah!" 😫 Stomps off in a temper.

He'd do my head in, honestly! 😬

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/05/2025 17:23

I still have only seen e1

I came here to see if anybody enjoyed it. It's taken me five attempts just to watch the first episode. Does it suddenly improve or should I just delete the rest?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2025 10:04

I am wondering whether to continue as have so much other stuff to watch and tonight I went to watch the anniversary on bbc 1

I liked the 1st episode but I think it's gone downhill since then. 3 episodes in, I said I'd give one more episode a chance but am struggling to bother. It's slow moving and imo the characters and plot line just aren't very compelling.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2025 12:48

You aren’t selling it @IcedPurple 😂

Yeah I would echo this. It started off with so much promise, but is rather slow moving and a bit like storylines are being dragged out/aren't moving on. I have watched 5 of the 8 episodes now, and am only continuing to watch because I thought I may as well - seeing as there are only 3 episodes left/8 altogether.

If there was say, 4 seasons, and another 25-30 episodes to watch, I would probably bail now to be honest.

Pixiedust1234 · 24/05/2025 22:31

Thanks both of you, I think I'll delete the other episodes since it doesn't appear to improve.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2025 22:54

Same as don’t have 7 spare hours to waste 💜💜

I’ve given up after 3 episodes it’s just too slow

Pixiedust1234 · 25/05/2025 21:46

I deleted them tonight and I realised Episode 1 was still there so I pressed resume play expecting the credits to roll. Nope, I'd only managed 44 minutes of the 1hr4min recording 😮

IcedPurple · 25/05/2025 22:04

Seems to be a consensus that it's dull, slow and not worth persevering with.

I think with so much choice in this age of streaming, a slow moving 8 episode series is a bad idea.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/05/2025 04:38

Yep. Deleted mine as well. That’s unusual for me but I don’t have. A spare 7hrs to watzh 2/8 if isn’t that good

NewAgeNewMe · 26/05/2025 06:11

Agreed. Was too slow.

deeahgwitch · 27/05/2025 09:21

I think it’s good. I’ve only seen two episodes so far.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/05/2025 09:32

You can tell us the plot ending @deeahgwitch

Silly me went and googled the series.🙈 Blush
I know who the murderer is and have only seen 2 episodes.

JemimaTab · 28/05/2025 15:38

I’ve been struggling with this one too (two episodes in). I’m not sure it’s because it’s slow, because normally I don’t mind a series that takes its time, but I just don’t find I’m engaged by it. Which is a problem.
(Also I’m finding the classical music education of the kid kind of insufferable.)

Me too. The first couple of episodes were a bit slow then I got really in to it and binged it. I did actually guess the killer at first but then changed my mind with all the twists. Should have stuck with my gut! I thought Truman was a bit unfair to Mickey in the last episode.
