Anyone watching? I think it’s brilliant. So funny on Gen x /Gen z differences and how long marriages really are

Found you!

I've just finished episode 2 and seen a tiny bit of episode 3! I'm loving it 🙌

Zov · 17/05/2025 11:54

Hmmm, I am on the fence with this one. It was OK and easy to watch and funny and quirky in part, but yeah I agree a few of the characters were unlikeable - Anne and Nick especially. Ginny was just a bit boring and slightly annoying IMO.

@TuesdaysAreBest

Awful woke remake of a classic.

Also agree with this. I have no issue with anyone who is gay, but I did notice that the only couple out of all the couples in this who were smooching, snogging, and kissing a lot, and naked in bed some of the time was the same sex (male) couple. None of the heterosexual couples were continually snogging/kissing/naked in bed. For that reason, I agree that it was too try-hard, and yes, 'woke.'

Nick (who left his wife after 25 years) could be heard shagging his 'hot young girlfriend' a couple of times, but you didn't see anything.

Also, I don't like how it felt like an episode was missing between episode 2 and episode 3. They were all at the vow renewals at the end of episode 2, and the kiln blew up (I think it was the kiln,) then the episode ended. Then episode 3 started and Nick was with his new younger woman on a holiday retreat with the other couples. Felt like some scenes were missed out!

3.5 stars out of 5 from me.

@Zov of course scenes were missed out, the whole premise of the show was that we caught up with the friends for a couple of days. every season. It moved from spring (the first two episodes) and then we skipped to summer for the next two eps. Things had obviously moved on but we couldn’t see all the scenes that had happened in between. We had to catch up. Otherwise it wouldn’t be called the Four Seasons but All the Time. Grin

Zov · 17/05/2025 17:14

Ah ha, silly me! Thanks @PuppyMonkey 😆

MaynowJunesoon · 17/05/2025 22:04

Really enjoyed most of it.

The scene with the gay couple and the random guy they picked up was clichéd and uncomfortable to watch.

Shame they killed off Nick as I would've liked to have seen how things worked out with him and Ginny.

There's going to be a sequel which I don't want.

Zov · 18/05/2025 12:34

Is anyone else noticing that Steve Carrell (Nick) looks a bit like Peter Barlow (from Corrie) in this programme? Just me....?😆

Awful woke remake of a classic.

Can I ask what makes it woke?

Scorchio84 · 21/05/2025 01:27

Also they were like judgemental when the Tina Fey & her husband had sex in someone elses gaff.. so there's judgement in reverse 😄massive eyeroll

MrsJamin · 27/05/2025 19:51

I just hated it but made myself watch it to the end, for some unfathomable reason! It wasn't funny! I hadn't even heard of the movie, perhaps she should have thought what people would think of it with fresh eyes. It also made me think I am definitely not gen x as I felt like I had nothing in common with these boring people. I want my four hours back. Also: Sirens was terrible too! Wtf is Netflix doing?!

GhostOrchid · 28/05/2025 06:12

I enjoyed it. It went down easy enough.

Dont know the original film but it made me think of Four Weddings, albeit with 50 somethings and a Neil Simony vibe. It was obvious someone was going to die. Lots of heavy foreshadowing about ill health. Although when it happens it’s not who or how you expect.

Thought the gay relationship was the most weakly written and Claude barely more than a caricature whereas there was a spark of truth about everyone else. Credible characterisation was sometimes sacrificed to the contrivance of the structure, particularly the Nick-Anne-Ginny triangle.

Agree there were some elements that never really went anywhere like the daughter who was never spoken of again and Anne’s lack of confidence.

Sauvin · 28/05/2025 06:46

There were some great little moments. Like when Anne wanted to show the yoga guy the figurine she’d bought and it was wrapped in about a hundred layers of tissue paper. Those places always use too much paper!

Doubleraspberry · 28/05/2025 07:25

We absolutely loved it. So many moments where we laughed out loud or cringed or both.

MonkeyTennis34 · 28/05/2025 08:43

I really enjoyed this, light and very funny in places.
Being a 55 yo married woman, it rang a lot of bells for me.

Steamirin · 28/05/2025 16:06

I really loved it! So many funny scenes, the kiln blowing up, the red stripper shoes at the funeral, the pedal pub, I thought it was brilliant!

Ginny was lovely, she tried really hard, was totally gorgeous (I may have a girl crush) and I felt so sad for her when she wasn't allowed to speak at the funeral. I did think Ann's reaction to her being pregnant was unlikely though, you'd be so jealous I'd imagine...

MerrionMiriam · 28/05/2025 16:27

I enjoyed it but thought Ann was woefully miscast, making SC’s character more likeable and his MLC more forgivable.

MaynowJunesoon · 29/05/2025 02:47

Agreed. I was surprised the actress is only 55 - she seemed much older than the others.

MonkeyTennis34 · 29/05/2025 13:27

@MerrionMiriam
I agree re Ann. And that haircut!! Didn’t do her any favours.

TuesdaysAreBest · 29/05/2025 15:40

She wasn’t miscast, she was meant to be unappealing and someone whom her husband would cheat on. Fair dues to the actress who took that role on.
