This is our tenth anniversary of sharing our thoughts on Our Girl series one and have subsequently watched the other three series, followed by Soldier Soldier, The Musketeers, Spooks and Hustle so thought it was time to try something different. Please join us and share your thoughts if you have ever been a fan of Downton Abbey. We are currently on series three, episode seven.

The news has come through - the baby has arrived! But he had forgotten to ask if it's a little boy or a little girl!

Thankfully, it's a boy to carry on the Downton lineage.

Oh dear, this is not going to end well.

I've avoided watching this episode since it was first aired. I think it was one of the worst ever Christmas day special decisions. We sat there in stunned silence and cried. It was so miserable. What on earth were they thinking?

Now I remember and also how shocked I was and still am

Yes as the ending for a Christmas special it seemed horrendous.

I've always maintained that if the actor wanted to leave and for it to be final, they should have ended this Christmas episode with him speeding away and left it at that. They could have started the next series with him still driving back and then having the accident.

Yes, I remember watching it on Christmas Day too. Wasn't it a morbid end to the day?

Apparently, "Matthew" had said he would only do three series and then wanted out. It was certainly a very final way of writing him out.

Just like our lovely Elvis, there were ways around writing Matthew out.

There certainly were. I get it would have been difficult to send him somewhere for months on end, but at the very least, I wouldn't have killed him in the Christmas Day episode.

I didn't remember much of that episode because I just never watch it.

Are we ok to start series 4 next week?

Yes to next week, yes to ending being brutal.

I am OK for next week’s episode. Heartily agree with what you have all said about the way that ending was handled. Have got used to th idea of Matthew being gone.

Yes, all good for next week and series 4. All in all, series 3 dealt us a couple of bad blows. Let's hope series 4 will offer some crumbs of joy.
