Will watch. Have been told about a young teenage girl who was raped during the journey to Australia who had to give her baby up.

He contacted her decades later but she she didn't want to know. However her daughter and her son did connect with him. Bittersweet and this series is fantastic.

What a sad and disturbing story.

I am sure it was hard for many.

Not forgetting that many of the ships taking these familes were also taking children from the UK away from their mothers, often without their knowledge, and these children ended up in terrible circumstances. Many in Church led institutions.

I am sure there was a film about it, but it is another of those stories about horrible bits of UK history. Sad

Thanks for flagging this up @IwantToRetire - I enjoyed this so much more than the series of the same name. It really is a case of truth being better than fiction. I also enjoyed this podcast - another true story about ten pound Poms.

Thanks for this, sounds interesting,I will seek it out.
When I was 6/7 a girl in my class went to Australia with her family as ten pound Brits - it must have made quite an impression, to be remembered after all these years…
I wonder what happened to them…hopefully good things.

I've only just watched this and was a tiny bit disappointed as it fact it was made some years ago.

Lots in it that gives even more idea than the tv series about just how hard it was for some people. Not helped by what was clearly misadvertising of what anyone going could expect.

It would have been good if they had been able to add other stories, as I suspect given the passage of time there wont be that many around as time goes on who were actually part of this.

But still glad it has been re-shown.
