Let’s go……

OP posts:

Sorry to get serious here, but I think this show is highlighting a massive problem happening now. It might also explain why there has been a rise in Incel groups.
The expectations of unattractive men. There is no effort or self improvement made -hey (Jake) let’s rock up to an international TV show, not wash your hair, stick on a raggy old T-shirt and bitch about women.
Tim catfishing on dating sites, yet has absolutely no personality, sits there like mashed potato on a hot plate.
The one, with the trad wife using terms like ‘high value men and women’
Then they can’t understand why they can’t get the girls they drool over on Pornhub/Onlyfans and turn proper nasty. It’s so scary.

I do think the despicable photo ranking is designed to trick people like Jake for drama, shame he didn’t have Billy’s sense to realise this!

AllyDally · 14/03/2025 09:43

I don't really like Tony but he was trying to do the task and what Morena was going on about was ridiculous, making it all about her. She is a bit much and it felt false. He doesn't appear to have much emotional intelligence at all, I just don't believe they were the only older 2 people they could have matched. It is just so pointless.

I agree re duty of care for contestants with children, no way should they have allowed Adrian to be matched with Awhina.

Ryan and Jacqui are both insane, i am looking forward to hearing the experts take on them on Monday!

I would really love to know why the experts think it is ok to include people like Katie, Tim, Adrian in this experiment when clearly they have major issues, there appears to be no duty of care and would love to know their thought process behind it all.

Doubleraspberry · 14/03/2025 09:45

My ND child would do the photo ranking task absolutely at face value and then be surprised that someone was upset about what is after all what they perceive to be the truth.

For this, and many other reasons, I would do anything I could to stop them going on a show like this. Luckily I suspect they would run a mile at the mere idea. But MAFS isn’t about who is good at relationships really - it’s not that ND people can’t form successful romantic partnerships. It’s all about playing the producers game the best way possible and that is where ND will cause problems.

I totally disagree re Morena. She was making total sense. Her sense of who she found attractive was rooted in their personalities and the ones who had ignored her scores low. That’s a far more relatable approach for me than judging purely on looks. I thought the editing did her dirty. To me, the issue was Tony’s lack of interest in understanding how she felt about it, and zoning out when she was talking.

Actually editing to add I stand by above but the scene with her bringing his memories back to her was a bit much!

Sorry I meant the ex task where she just turned his memories back to her, although editing could have been part of this also, i totally agree re the photo task, I thought Tony was very unkind about her, she wasn't really saying more than anyone else about the choices she was making and surely its normal to comment on your decisions.

Yes my ND DS would possibly be the same. He doesn't necessarily see some things he says as being bad or negative, just factual. He is quite empathetic though so would not purposely cause upset. Jake was on another level with what he said.

I think Jake intended to be a bit jokey to defuse his opinions and misjudged it, then blew up when challenged as he couldn’t cope emotionally with having upset Ashleigh and being asked to deal with that.

Why, because he wouldn’t find them attractive?! I appreciate that some of the things he said weren’t particularly flattering, but if there’s one area where people are allowed to have a physical preference surely its in the world of dating? Everyone acting like he said something awful, but why is that so much worse than all the “i only date petite blondes” nonsense?

If you don’t find a certain height/weight/hair colour/facial feature/style attractive then it should be ok to say so.

Jake saying he usually finds caucasian women attractive didn’t strike me as being any worse than Jacqui “Oh he’s not blonde” or anyone else’s physical preferences about height or build. Yes, if he’d been matched with her and decided not to give it a go because she’s not his usual racial type it would have been shitty and racist. But the ranking task is about physical attraction. It’s not like he said anything disparaging about Awhina’s heritage, just that she wasn’t someone he’d find attractive.

Because it implies a hierarchy. He thinks white women are better. Race comes with baggage - and so does commenting on it. It’s not as simple as skin pigmentation - Awhina is the same colour as the other girls, in fact fairer than say Carina who is very tanned, but in his eyes white and good looking. It is a rejection of her islander and indigenous heritage, and we all know how problematic this issue is in Australia.

MargoLivebetter · 14/03/2025 10:14

I'm going to stamp my foot in a very non-MAFS thread way about all the spectrum, ND comments. DS is 25 and autistic. He went to a school for children who had a variety of specific learning difficulties and cognitive impairments, so most of his friends are ND too. He now works in a nerdy, technology field, so many of his work mates are ND too. Can I just shout this from the rooftops, THEY ARE NOT ARSEHOLES!!!!! They are occasionally a bit blunt and sometimes say wildly weird things, but I've yet to meet one of them who is misogynistic, racist or entitled.

ND is neither here nor there with the wankerton behaviour we are seeing on MAFs. They are just wankers.

You can’t honestly be that thick to think being blonde to the same as being from a different race.

Haha, I’m an extremely clumsy person -in all contexts

SmugglersHaunt · 14/03/2025 10:44

I’ve seen the woman who “used to be a model” all over TikTok slagging off the series. Also, Tim is vile!

Delatron · 14/03/2025 10:46

I don’t understand how these are the men the experts chose. Are these the best Australia has to offer? (Apart from
Billy who is not Australian). These poor women.

Or is it a complete set up by the producers and the experts. Let’s find the worst, mysogynistic, deluded, unattractive men and pair them with some lovely (some a bit fragile) women.

chaosmaker · 14/03/2025 10:51

Looked online and apparently Adrian's Greek and Aussie heritage combined with the area he lives in which is very diverse contributes to his accent along with his mumbling. I also think he speaks like he has rocks in his mouth.

Italiangreyhound · 14/03/2025 10:57

Delatron it's interesting that the two best men are English and French! But the English men on the UK series were pretty crap!

Yeah I did mean to say that. Which makes me think the producers do this deliberately for good TV.

heartsinvisiblefury · 14/03/2025 11:34

‘oh to have the confidence of a mediocre man ‘ is the quote that comes to mind when watching the photo ranking challenge

All my kids are ND as are most of their friends. Some of them (not my kids!) are arseholes. Not because they are ND. One (again, not one of mine) is openly racist. Not because he is ND.

I see ND traits in some contestants which are leading them to behaviour that is being interpreted as bad character but could be explained by the way they understand the tasks or see the world. That’s on the producers not the contestants. Some of the contestants are just plain arseholes.
