6 part drama. On sun and mon x3w at 9pm itv

ITV has released the first trailer for its new six-part drama, Protection (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/protection-itv-first-look-exclusive-newsupdate/)
, starring Siobhan Finneran, Nadine Marshall and Katherine Kelly.

The upcoming thriller series has been described as "what happens when the clandestine and morally grey witness protection system breaks down".

The gripping trailer sees a man with a gun enter a home to kill members of a family before the police and ambulance arrive as its revealed they've been in witness protection.

I'm neck deep in it," Finneran's character can be heard saying before she is told by Ace Bhatti's character: "Then keep your head down and your mouth shut."

The trailer ends with the chilling words: "Don't trust anyone..."

The synopsis reads: "Detective Inspector Liz Nyles (Finneran) – a single mum, juggling a difficult divorce and a sick father – finds herself at the heart of a security breach within her witness protection unit.

"Professionally compromised by a secret affair with a colleague, she is determined to uncover the true source of corruption within the police.

"Liz will stop at nothing to redeem herself, the reputation of her lover, and to keep her witnesses and her own family safe. Even if it means breaking all the rules."

Telling the story of "a tough but increasingly isolated and under suspicion police officer as she is pulled into a dangerous conspiracy where nothing is as it seems", the six-parter is inspired by a real-life witness protection officer who served as a consultant on the series.

It’s about a police officer, Detective Inspector Liz Nyles (Siobhan Finneran), who finds herself at the heart of such a breach; personally compromised by an affair with a colleague, but determined to fight back, and uncover the true source of corruption within her unit.

To redeem herself, the reputation of her lover, and to keep her witnesses safe. Even if they don’t always deserve it.

"Navigating the morally-grey, clandestine world of witness protection, Liz’s mission to find the truth will take her deep into the heart of the criminal underbelly and beyond as she becomes more and more torn between caring for her family, her loyalty to her lover and her duty as a police officer." We're already hooked!

Police officer DI Liz Nyles works in the secretive and high-stakes world of Witness Protection.

When we meet her, she’s juggling a challenging front-line job (with life and death consequences for her witnesses) alongside a demanding family life – attending to the needs of a teenage daughter, a difficult ex, and a dad recovering from a stroke.

"Liz is principled, in control, and scrupulous about the security of her witnesses, particularly the high-risk criminal turned informant Jimmy McLennan and his family.

Jimmy is about to testify against his old boss Eddie Crowther, the head of a major organised crime group which has so far evaded prosecution.

As with all those under her protection, Liz goes above and beyond to keep Jimmy’s family safe, working with colleague DS Raj Kohli to keep their whereabouts strictly hidden.

This witness protection team are rather rubbish though. How come Amy has her tablet still with her?

She hid it in the draw

Despite how annoyingly hopeless our heroine is, this is really interesting.

Delatron · 17/03/2025 22:06

They are a bit rubbish!

Did I miss how the two kids know each other?

Delatron · 17/03/2025 22:06

It’s full of plot holes but at the same time very gripping!

It isn’t her tablet I don’t think, it’s Jasmines tablet so she’s stolen it

Ellmau · 17/03/2025 22:07

Brandice's mate is obviously dodgy in some way. Well done on tipping him off, Nyles...

But it said Amy at the top other pad that Arlo was holding

Presumably the families socialised when Amy's dad worked for Crowther.

i wish they’d make the male characters all look very different, often they look too similar. I need someone with red hair, another with a moustache, another with a shaven head etc….
And they need to change Siobhan’s car now, baddies have make and number.

I agree! At the end I was getting the ex-army fella mixed up with the murderer released from custody!!

Wasn’t that just her sign in? I thought she found it in Jasmines drawer

mum2jakie · 17/03/2025 22:11

We need a whole cast based on the Guess Who? board game so we can differentiate between them more easily! 😆

I’ve just read the recap and it said Amy found it so it must have been in the drawer already. Gosh it hurts your head lol

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/03/2025 22:25

Amy found Jasmine's tablet in the dressing table drawer and she has now stolen it. She was able to log into her messaging account and got a message from Arlo. Perhaps he's the leak, at least for the shooting incident? She and Arlo know each other as their Dads seemed to be close at one point, before Amy's Dad turned witness against Crowther.

Agree that the army friend, John Gibson, is not who he says he is.

Ellmau · 17/03/2025 22:26

At least Liz seems suspicious of him having ordered a background check, but her chat with him was so amateurish. How is she a senior officer?

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 17/03/2025 22:36

Crowther- baddie. Ordered the hit?
son Arlo messaging amy

john Gibson - posh army bloke. But how did nyjes get his info?

it’s like line of duty - I have to make notes.

what have I missed?

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/03/2025 22:45

She rang a number on Brandice's burner phone and John Gibson answered. That's how she made contact with him.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2025 22:46

I’ve only just read the recap. I was going on what I had seen

hence I love a recap as obv miss things

and also why I love to watch tv pace as can discuss theories etx

Ok thanks. And they knew each other from the army.

@Blondeshavemorefun yes I prefer tv pace. Get more for your money that way. I have binged some stuff before but they then become forgettable to me.
