American wife swap - little girl prefers new mum and doesn’t want original mum back

Has anyone seen this episode?

Has anyone encountered such a situation in real life? It really drew me in for some reason and I can’t forget. I hope that little girl is okay now.

I watched American wife swap last night, the episode featured a little girl of primary school age, 6 or 7 or thereabouts.
The little girl really took to her new “mom”, who spent a lot of time with her, reading to her, playing games, cooking marshmallows together.
New mum had such a loving attentive way about her, so respectful of this little child.

When it was time for the mothers to swap back, this child told her new “mom” that she didn’t want her own mother to come back.

Quite a significant statement. The lovely new mom of course didn’t tell the real mother, although I’m sure she will have eventually seen it when the episode aired. I hope she changed her ways for the sake of her child.

I half fell in love with the new mom myself, she was quite something, radiated such warmth, I wouldn’t have wanted my mum back either.

That’s really sad. Were there any children in the other family? How did mum get on with those?

How old is this episode? I will have to find and watch. Thats absolutely heartbreaking.

Although i was watching an episode of the British wifeswap the other day where the wife was actually nuts. Within three days she randomly starts calling the other woman a slag and threatening to harm her and calling her husband constantly even though it was against the rules.

I think it's wrong to involve the kids in this stuff

I always thought Wife Swap was deeply unethical when it stated here. When they involved the kids anyway.

Things like that should never be publicly broadcast. How damaging.

I'd approach that with caution, the American series is scripted and staged.

Where are you all watching wife swap?

This has sort of happened with us and a young family member. I don’t want to go into too much detail, as the DC’s family is unpleasant at best, but it broke my heart.

We looked after her regularly from when she was born. She was always very happy when we were around, but when she got to around five, she started constantly asking to live with us. She would be inconsolable when going home and angry with her family the rest of the time.

This continued until the whole “family” imploded and we went NC for unrelated reasons. I think about her often and hope she’s doing as well as she could be under the circumstances. Her parents weren’t abusive or neglectful in any obvious way- a lot of emotional abuse and instability- but nothing SS would have been able to intervene about, unfortunately, because she deserved a lot better.
