Slow Horses if you have Apple TV

Ozark on Netflix

I recently watched Virdee which is on BBC Iplayer and it’s really good.

Was wondering about Dope Girls and see it’s been recommended, so I’ll give that a go next.

Waiting for the new White Lotus to come out on rvd as don’t unfortunately have Sky.

I watch a lot of telly!

Wrong Side of the Tracks on Netflix. 4 seasons. I didn't think it would be my cup of tea but we loved it.

I loved You Don’t know Me - Netflix

We have really been enjoying an Australian series called Jack Irish, which is on the Channel 4 app in the world drama section.

Good exciting story, great characters and very funny - real dry Aussie wit. Guy Pearce is the lead.

Irvine Welsh’s Crime. It is on ITVx, two series available. As gritty as you can find.
Love/Hate also on ITVx. Five series, set in Dublin. Very, very good.

Keeping faith

this is England

The Bridge
The Killing (go for the Scandi versions of both the above. Outstanding)

The West Wing - still stands the test of time and we could only be so lucky #BartlettforPresident

Sherwood

Yellowstone but I would start with the 1st prequel and then do the main series.

healthconcernedliz · 05/03/2025 17:28

I watched Playing Nice recently on itvx and it was really gripping

storminabuttercup · 05/03/2025 17:39

Shetland ? I often find things much grittier than others though

MarkWithaC · 06/03/2025 11:18

Some of these are really not gritty!
Hinterland is fantastic; gritty and also beautiful.
Chernobyl is a tough watch, but essential IMO.

Don't think anyone's mentioned Hugo Blick's work:

The English
The Shadow Line
Black Earth Rising
The Honourable Woman

(if they're still available).
Gritty and very original and different.
John Goodman's performance in Black Earth Rising is one of the finest I've ever seen.
