Singled Out by Virginia Nicholson is a brilliant account of women’s lives after WWI, telling the story of the women who were left unexpectedly single and had to make a whole new way of life for themselves. I agree that it’s not a “forgotten part of history” at all, unless it’s meant to refer specifically to the underground club/drug scene which perhaps we think of as a more modern thing.

I read this years ago and I couldn’t put it down. It’s hard for us now to imagine the impact WW1 had on women’s lives.
I half heartedly watching the show , on episode 2 now , but it’s annoying me that they are pottering around without hats on lol but I am guessing I’m not the target audience! I liked Peaky Blinders and Harlots which was in a similar vein but I don’t think this comes close.

Goodness - only a month since I watched this and I’d completely forgotten it! Was wondering whether this ‘new show’ would be worth watching …

Even the episode titles are trying to be oh so titillating and fun. I managed one episode.

Luckily I found the review above as The Guardian and Independent gave it 3 stars -too generous. The dialogue was bad.

Just finished it. Well I enjoyed it! Edgy, visually rich and fairly silly but that's fine with me 😊
