Corrie Fans - Campaign to save beloved character (Spoiler)

Not sure if everyone's heard but there is an upcoming storyline that a certain female character will get dementia and eventually leave Corrie. The actress had no intention to leave.

It's Debbie Webster.

A group of Corrie fans on Digital Spy etc are trying to get this turned around. Because we love Debbie! She's fits Corrie like a glove.

We've contacted the team at ITV and got told respectfully they 'disagree with' our opinion.

I love Debbie, she is one of the few likeable believable characters left on the show. I've been watching since the days of Ena Sharples and sadly the entire show has gone to shit over the past few years.

I heard about Debbie's storyline a while ago, it is a terrible idea IMO. And like all storylines on Corrie nowadays it'll also be really badly done.

But I don't think any amount of petitions will change ITV's mind.

Thanks, it's an uphill battle for sure. It's more the wider press publicity that might turn it around.

It's incomprehensible that they would decide to get rid of one of the show's best assets, If they wanted to give her a big storyline fair enough, but this is really awful.

Oh no, not Debbie!!!! Debbie and Todd are the only decent characters in the whole show right now. There are tons more people that they could have given this storyline to. I can write them a list!!!!

Just proves that Corrie writers have absolutely no idea what their viewers want to see.

Debbie is AMAZING! never whinges, cries, snots, and always positive.

I read Craig is also getting axed. With all these new awful characters I often miss it now. Haven't watched it this week.

Debbie has been carrying Corrie in recent weeks with the Kevin cancer/Abi trauma storylines.
She's spiky and a bit acerbic but she's shown her softer side.
She gets my vote.

Why are they bringing rubbish new characters like van man and his missies in, along with new sets and houses but getting rid of loved characters

yes Debbie annoyed me at first but as others have said she’s carried the show for a long time and I love her relationship with Jack

The more Debbie is in the latest scenes, the more we can see what an important role she has in the show.

I agree, she's been great in the Kev storyline.

Although I don't know what the reason is that they're bringing new actors into Corrie, while essentially getting rid of characters that have been in the show for years, I get the feeling it's an economic decision that possibly new actors won't have contracts or won't be getting as much money for their work?
We've all noticed how they take main characters out of the show for many weeks, then bring them back for a storyline, while releasing others for a break.
Economics.
Sometimes I don't know why I keep watching, but I've watched for decades and it's hard to break the habit.
I too love Debbie she's been a wonderful character, a real positive addition to the cast, and really enjoyable to watch.

Yes I had read that Debbie was leaving, along with a few others - one being Yasmeen yesterday.

Yes I'm a bit surprised there isn't a spoilers thread but I think it's because of a general lack of interest in Corrie nowadays.

There are quite a few exits this year, the next two being Daisy and Eileen.

Yasmeen, Eileen & Craig can all go but Debbie needs to stay! I’ll also miss Daisy.

If the actor wants to leave I suppose there is not a lot viewers can do about it, but I’m sure I read somewhere that Sue Devanney wanted to stay.

Really don’t understand what is going on with Corrie atm but I feel it is slowly dying a death.

I read the same @FeltCarrot, that it wasn’t her choice to leave but the writers writing Debbie out.

Even if an actor wants to leave you don't have to kill the character, or give them such a horrible end. But I too read that Sue Devaney did not want to leave and was quite upset about it.

Debbie Webster is a class act in Corrie, she makes the show worth watching. Next they will be bumping off Tracey who we are find hilarious rather than giving “eyelash” Eileen dementia so George can be free to find a new partner (preferably one of the cast of Benidorm) to bring some fun back into the series.
