This is our tenth anniversary of sharing our thoughts on Our Girl series one and have subsequently watched the other three series, followed by Soldier Soldier, The Musketeers, Spooks and Hustle so thought it was time to try something different. Please join us and share your thoughts if you have ever been a fan of Downton Abbey. We are currently on series two, episode seven.

I think Thomas's black market dealings are about to be discovered.

Something wrong with wedding cake. Thomas has been conned it seems

Rhubarb01 · 19/02/2025 21:47

The sisters track the errant pair down. "At least nothing has happened". I suppose they might be able to keep this quiet. Mary tries to reason with Sybil about it.

Magi84 · 19/02/2025 21:49

Mary actually sounding concerned for their future dealings with family

Rhubarb01 · 19/02/2025 21:49

First mention of the 'Spanish 'Flu' - bound to rear it's head.

Magi84 · 19/02/2025 21:50

Oh oh Spanish Flu going to change a few things methinks

Ilovelblue · 19/02/2025 21:51

Jane the housemaid is going to resign.

The Spanish flu epidemic is going to have major consequences.

This episode has been quite good at bringing out all the uncertainty that the post war era created. Everyone seems unsure where their future lies.

Lord G being very honourable after behaving in an ungentlemanly manner.

Meanwhile, Thomas goes bananas in his store room. He has invested all his money into this venture and it's rubbish.

eejittwo · 19/02/2025 21:52

Thomas in a temper.

Rhubarb01 · 19/02/2025 21:52

Matthew can't part with Mary's good luck charm.

Magi84 · 19/02/2025 21:52

Thomas ruined and he goes berserk

Ilovelblue · 19/02/2025 21:54

Gosh, the last episode next week. Are we doing the Christmas special too? Is that longer than the usual 45 mins to 1 hour.

Lots has happened this episode and 'Next Week' looks equally full. Clearly the Spanish 'Flu will have reached Downton by episode 8.

Another good episode. I have seen Downton quite a few times, but it's really interesting taking the time episode by episode to really look at it more closely and listen properly to what is being said. You always pick up on something new each time. Enjoyed that Smile

Yes, the Christmas special does follow on from the end of episode 8 and it is longer. It was 2 hours originally with adverts so it's probably around 90 minutes in total - a bit like the OG pilot, I should think.

Just checked and it's 1 hr 32 minutes without adverts.

Yes another very satisfactory episode. I agree Rhu I do seem to pick up more things when seeing this at our pace and reading each other's posts. Excellent stuff. See you all ext week.

eejittwo · 19/02/2025 22:05

Yes, an excellent episode. See you next week for Ep 8, but I can’t do w/b 3rd March.

Ilovelblue · 19/02/2025 22:08

I only watched Downton as it aired on ITV and doing our watchalongs, I realise I didn't see every episode. I don't think I ever really "got" Maggie Smith's superb lines first time round either. I'm really enjoying these Wednesday evenings.

I might struggle on Wednesday 12 March but would be ok any other night that week if people are prepared to swap a bit?

I can swap around to suit whatever's best for everyone.

eejittwo · 19/02/2025 22:58

I could do Monday 10th, if that suits others.
