This is our tenth anniversary of sharing our thoughts on Our Girl series one and have subsequently watched the other three series, followed by Soldier Soldier, The Musketeers, Spooks and Hustle so thought it was time to try something different. Please join us and share your thoughts if you have ever been a fan of Downton Abbey. We are currently on series two, episode seven.

Matthew is in the dog house! Poor man can't do right for doing wrong.

I’d never seen this before, and Cora made me cry too.

eejittwo · 16/04/2025 21:46

Ooh, Cora telling it like it is.

Rhubarb01 · 16/04/2025 21:46

Poor Violet.

Rhubarb01 · 16/04/2025 21:48

Cora is right, but my goodness this is going to cause a lot of trouble.

Ilovelblue · 16/04/2025 21:48

Lord G needs to hear those home truths. He valued Sir Philip's opinion I think mainly out of snobbery that he had to be better than Dr Clarkson because he had a title.

That was a tough watch. I think the actress wanted to leave and so they made it final, but it really is terribly sad.

As for Robert and Cora, there is going to be a lot of fall out.

Same time next week?

Ilovelblue · 16/04/2025 21:54

Same time, same place, yes Rhu.

I think I read that the actress had said she would do three series and then wanted out. I suppose this was a very final way of writing out her character.

Can’t believe I forgot it was Wednesday. Do have somewhat of an excuse Arsenal were playing Real Madrid in their second match in the Champions League and I have DH, two sons and three grandsons who are all Arsenal supporters and their enthusiasm and constant texting swamped my mind as to what day of the week it was. How is that for an excuse. The good news is Arsenal are now in the semi finals of Champions League.

Wondered where you'd got to, Magi but it sounds like you had a more cheerful watch with a better outcome than the latest episode. I've still got a stuffy nose from the snivelling.

eejittwo · 16/04/2025 22:30

Promise me next week won’t be so harrowing.

Magi84 · 17/04/2025 07:05

Oh I remember watching this episode first time round and raging at the pompous Sir Philip followed by such a sad feeling over Sybil. So harrowing indeed. Anyway I will now watch it today and probably quietly sob on my own. See you next week.

Ilovelblue · 17/04/2025 23:29

I did miss you Magi!

I was thinking last night as we wiped a few tears away that it was maybe comparable when Elvis died in OG? No, maybe it wasn't quite so harrowing last night. That death letter Elvis had written is something I still can't listen to.

Magi84 · 18/04/2025 08:36

Oh I think you are one hundred percent correct ilove. The Elvis death and that letter were overwhelmingly heartbreaking. A real sob fest and can’t watch it ever again. No amount of telling myself it is because the actor is leaving they have had to concoct this. To me it was so real and so poignant.

eejittwo · 21/04/2025 19:36

Thing is, Sybil’s death was believable as an exit from the series, whereas Elvis’s wasn’t. He could have been injured and sent home, with the same phone and iPad traffic we saw with others. Kingy had messages from Mrs Kingy, but did we see her till the wedding?
Or he could just have gone off on another mission where he’d be incommunicado for the rest of the series, which is what we would expect anyway.
But no - cheap and unnecessary death.

Getting ready for tonight's episode

Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2025 20:58

Pressing play

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2025 21:01

Oh this is going to be another sad episode I think.

The funeral.over. very subdued. Cora still chilly with LordvG

Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2025 21:02

Poor Tom looks shocked and stricken.

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2025 21:03

I'd forgotten about Ethel.

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 23/04/2025 21:04

I don't think Ethel's cooking skills are up to much.

Magi84 · 23/04/2025 21:05

Lord G asks to come back to bedroom but Cora has not warmed to the idea
