January flew by in the blink of an eye
Leanne and Steve are getting close
Cassie is drugging Ken day after day
Dose after dose after dose

Abi witnessed Mason's very sad death
She's struggling to keep it together
Carla and Swain are still an item
I wonder if they'll last forever

Bethany and Daisy are always at war
Over Daniel I know what a surprise
Gemma and Chesney are off on a trip
And Nick and Toyah are making us roll our eyes

Kevin may have cancer that's all that he needs
But Tim and Sally seem sound
Amy seems troubled I hope she's OK
And with Leanne and Tracey, mischief is abound

David and Shona are always on their toes
Scared of Harvey's heavies coming at them
Eva has left, will a few more will leave soon?
Will things be quite different by the next full moon?

All the old regulars don't appear much these days
Or any funny storylines or good feeling
It's just like The Bill with all convicts and thugs
And crime and violence that just leaves us reeling

Daisy is pregnant but who's the daddy
She doesn't seem to want to know
I wonder if we'll ever know or she'll keep it a secret
Now that she's decided she is going to keep it!

DeeDee's still pregnant I think but she's gone quiet
Lauren's been cleared of her 'crime.'
Debbie's still sassy, and Ronnie's still sexy
And Kit is in Corrie all the time!

!

That could be good, a Line of Duty and Corrie crossover. I’d watch that just for Ted saying bent coppers

thenightsky · 18/02/2025 23:08

I'd love to see Swain being cross examined by Ted. Imagine the eye rolling.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 18/02/2025 23:28

Where are the new couples kids while they are day drinking and getting their end away at Gemma and Chesneys, or Cheggers as he is now known.

CellophaneFlower · 19/02/2025 00:35

Deadringer · 18/02/2025 21:02

I assumed she was leaving him to bleed to death.

I thought this too. Pretty sure she didn't think they owed Rob anything. Obviously hadn't read the soapland handbook though... unless someone is 100% dead they will never stay where you left them.

If it's Albert Square the 100% bit isn't even certain enough to ensure they don't turn up again 20 years later 🙈

Freysimo · 19/02/2025 07:33

I grew up in a northern working class town not far from Manchester. We all knew people like Elsie Tanner and Ken Barlow (my cousin!), they felt real whereas none of today's cast do. Sally shares a lot of characteristics with Annie Walker but they had to spoil her by introducing a rampant sex life and smutty innuendos.. Yes Corrie, we know middle aged people have sex!

I don't feel empathy with any of the current characters. Why they persist with Gemma, Chesney and the quads I don't know.

Please let's have a massive earthquake on the cobbles, get rid of most of cast and start again with real people I can care about. Todd is a good character and much underused, can't think of anyone else I really like.

zanahoria · 19/02/2025 07:49

Corrie used to have a real regional identity but with universal values. I grew up nowhere Manchester but loved the characters mainly because of the way they evolved over the years and even decades.

There is little chance of that as they go for short term sensationalism and ruin characters with absurd criminal plots. The revolving cast of gangsters and other baddies heaping misery on the denizens of the street are bad enough but regular characters get involved too and they make out there is something heroic about their crimes as they are doing it for their family - Max was doing it last night. Just as bad is habitual criminal Abi who procures guns and bashes people over the head then has everyone making excuses for her as she cannot help herself.

MonickerMonica · 19/02/2025 08:28

Abi's current hallucinations are boring now. Sorry writers but you need to wrap this one up. She does a mildly decent tear stained anguish act but it's hardly Oscar worthy. So is the garage closed as no mechanics able bodied right now. (Is Tyrone still employed at the garage?I really can't remember). At least Abi's nail varnish is looking perfect
Oh hang on it looked perfect when she was working in the oily garage 🥹
At least they've de-glammed Carla to make her look like a kidney failing patient.

The new couple. Words fail me. Poor young Cheggers. He's no clue at all what's in store..... then to top it all he'll be booted off DOI any day now ⛸️

bizzey · 19/02/2025 09:47

Sally Carman was in an old episode of The Royal the other day ..
Guess what ...

She was crying over her son !!
Exactly the same cry !

To be fair ...the little lad had just been diagnosed with meningitis...which I presume in the 70's was a quite scary diagnosis.

TheodoraCrumpet · 19/02/2025 10:50

Surely Kit will be able to put a stop to the New Couple shenanigans, as a copper and a landlord, as well as Gemma's brother. That's probably too straightforward, and he'd find himself embroiled in another set of dodgy dealings.
God, I'm even getting bored of my own speculation.

thenightsky · 19/02/2025 11:11

Now Lauren seems to have gone, they need Abi to fill the 'sobbing, snotty, character' slot that is essential for each and every episode. I can't recall any recent episode without one.

Getupat8amnow · 19/02/2025 11:32

Switch to Emmerdale as it is on great form. I watch both Emmerdale and Coronation Street, Emmerdale is so much better now it might as well be on a different planet.

I also watch Classic Corrie on ITV3 and have done since they started showing it. The Coronation Street of the 80s and 90s was magnificent and I really enjoyed all those episodes. We are now in 2006 Classic Corrie and even in 2006 you can see that the quality is not as it was in the earlier years. The Richard Hillman years were a slow burn of excellence that concluded in 2003.

FeltCarrot · 19/02/2025 12:29

I care so little about most of the characters now.

Debbie and Ronnie can stay, so can Aadi and erm…

Thats about it.

zanahoria · 19/02/2025 12:50

Not sure a character cull would help if they just got new ones in with the same stupid plots.

I just want to see the amount of crime reduced, especially the murders.

thenightsky · 19/02/2025 12:52

Classic Corrie is good, but harrowing at the moment. Mike Baldwin's slide into dementia is both terrifying and so desperately sad. I was tearing up watching yesterday's.

FeltCarrot · 19/02/2025 13:06

I’ll add Todd to my list. So four of them can stay.

It is so upsetting, I feel so sorry for Mike

Who are the other three?

Has Lauren gone? I missed that.

HurdyGurdy19 · 19/02/2025 13:26

I am this >< close to giving up on Corrie now. Why is no one taking any notice of what the viewers are saying? Whether it's fora like this, or other social media, all the comments are negative. And all about the same subjects - unlikeable characters, ridiculous plots, ludicrous amounts of crime and the revolving doors of relationships. And let's not even get started on the Chesney/Gemma financial situation, and that family of 7 being crammed into that ridiculously small house.

I haven't seen anyone with even slight praise for Corrie recently. Which does make me wonder if it could be a deliberate ploy to run the programme so far into the ground that they have no viewers left, and no advertisers wanting to run ads, or give sponsorships, and they then have the reasons they're looking for to end the programme.

Honeyroar · 19/02/2025 13:26

Ah just seen your list.

If they wrote decent plots, I’d keep Sally, Jenny, Todd, Debbie, possibly Tim and Steve if they stopped pantomiming them. Funeral man and his sister, again with decent plots. Fizz and Tyrone’s household. Bernie. Possibly DeeDee depending on her storyline. Anyone involved with gangsters or con artists can be shot (get rid of the boring Platts!) Any 90 year olds in it for historic reasons (Rita, Ken, possibly Audrey). Get rid of Cara, all she does is withering put downs and pouts. Can’t even remember who else is in it.

MonickerMonica · 19/02/2025 13:33

Not sure if Debbie's Chariot Square Hotel is close to the street but there is scope for a new storyline or 3. New characters as in overnight guests even if temporary could bring a few possible light-hearted tales. Debbie actress is great and am sure she'd do us proud 😄
The soap is in dire need of smiles and stories which don't involve murders and gangsters. 🤔

Lorrymum · 19/02/2025 13:33

It's weird the way characters just disappear from sight. Surely Tyrone would have at least paid Kevin a visit during his cancer scare and op. Nowhere to be seen or even mentioned (who is running the garage?). I appreciate that cast members have holidays etc but it just adds to the disjointed feel of Coronation Street at the moment. Too many long drawn out stories with no real outcome at the end.

JewelleryCat · 19/02/2025 14:06

Maybe they’re wanting to make Corrie online only like they did with Hollyoaks if I remember correctly

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 19/02/2025 14:20

Emmerdale js incredible right now and the actors so believable. Really highlights how bad Corrie is.

eggandonion · 19/02/2025 14:40

I think Tyrone is very busy running the garage and Fizz is very busy running the factreh.
I would keep Tyrone and Fizz and the terrifying Hawp, Jenny, Todd, George and Glenda,Gary and Maria and Liam because they did the bullying thing well, Kevin if Rosie and Sophie returned, Amy and Aadi.
Mason and Jacob should never have gone, or Moira in the health centre.
The prison and hospital need to be hit by meteorites, and the police station should revert to PC Tinker.
Roy's needs to become a clean, nice cafe and the Kabin needs to reappear.

Honeyroar · 19/02/2025 15:16

Yes it’s like they’re on 33% contracts. They do a 3 week plot where they’re on constantly, then they’re gone for six weeks. Until we almost forget them.

Havent seen Eileen, Gary, Maria or Audrey for ages. Even Daisy and DeeDee are quiet, despite having obvious plots developing (amongst other things!). I guess we’re doing gangsters and surgical wards, then we’re going to change to the maternity ward and paternity wars??
