Questions about the filming of Deal or No Deal 🧰

I have told DH that MNetters will have the answers!

  • Do they really only film one episode per day and put them all up in a hotel for weeks on end?
  • If so, how do people get all that time off work?!
  • Why do they maintain that who is playing that day is a big shock when in fact the player’s relatives or friends are in the front row of the audience?

I went to watch DOND be filmed about 10 years ago. They filmed three episodes on one day.

The set was freezing and filthy!

And they kept making us “re-shoot” our claps and reactions as apparently we weren’t doing it loud enough or we didn’t seem excited enough.

It’s all far more staged than it appears to be on the TV.

👀👀👀 curious about this

Come dine with me was ruined when I found out it takes hours to film the dinner parties

And from what I remember, the member of the audience is told when their family/friend will be on hence why they just “happen to be there”. However, the actual contestant doesn’t know. The family member/friend isn’t actually bought out into the audience until the contestant’s name has already been announced.

So it is a genuine surprise for the contestant.

The whole roller ball with the contestant’s names on is just for effect. The producers know exactly who is going to play on a certain day many weeks in advance.

Fairly sure the chase, tipping point etc are also filmed several episodes a day, one guy on an episode of deal or no deal had been on for something like 40 contestants, how on earth could you be off work/ away from home for that long if only one episode a day

We went to watch it years ago too! There was more than one episode yes. They moved us around into different seats!

Oh yes, I had forgotten about that!

And we were only allowed to wear black clothes so that television watchers wouldn’t notice the same audience members were there for three “days” by recognising stand-out outfits.

Trying to work out how the boxes are "chosen at random", which they are asked to confirm once they're in the chair? Assigned at random I understand...am I being dim🤔

I have a vision of the boxes all being lined up with the numbers facing away from the contestants and then before the show they go up one by one and randomly pick up a box and so they don’t know what number box they have until they’ve chosen one and then had a look at the front of it.

That is what I imagine anyway.

Yes it is all very staged. Years ago I was dropping my daughter off at Heathrow and after she had gone through, I went outside to see several takes of Dermot O’ Leary telling the X factor contestants where they were jetting off to. They kept being told to be more surprised.
I have seen pointless being filmed. I think it was 3 episodes in 1 day. There were several retakes at the end. It is not something I would go to again.
I have also seen a filming of WILTY and that was only one episode.

Ahhh,@NorthernGirl1981 that could be it...doh! Thanks 😊

@NorthernGirl1981 Heyy there’s a video on Stephen Mulhern instagram about how the boxes are chosen, they randomly pick a ball from a bag with a number on it. I can’t find the video

I've been to see a couple of game shows being filmed, the most recent one being about 15 years ago. They took hours. All the hanging around and having to 'react' multiple times to the same bit was actually quite dull, hence not having wanted to do it again. The most interesting bit was getting to the studios, waiting in a queue outside and wondering what the high-walled compound was in the distance - all lit up with lighting gantries like a football stadium, with security all over the place. I asked a random bystander with a 'crew' lanyard and they said it was the Big Brother House.😂

I was on Deal or No Deal as a contestant when Noel Edmunds was the presenter. This is exactly what happened - I definitely didn't expect it to be my game when I was chosen but my family knew it was and were in the audience. We filmed 3 episodes a day. It was quite intense but a lovely experience. Happy to answer any questions!

My question : How much did you win? 🤣🤣🤣

squashyhat · 05/02/2025 18:41

It's easier I suppose as there's no audience but it makes me laugh on Richard Osman's House of Games when the contestants wear different clothes for each episode to try and fool us it's filmed over 5 days. The way they are churned out means they probably do 5 a day!

I won £100! My highest offer was about 10k, I was quite young and naive and just bulldozed through the game really. I remember them asking me to take more time to consider the amounts offered 🤣.
