I might be alone here but they seem to put Leo in occasional scenes but he doesn't seem able to speak. He's getting older now and I wonder how aware he is of the whole Emmerdale/television studio situation. I know very young child "actors" are told that in their scenes they should just ignore the dramas and shouting etc. as it's only make believe but sometimes it's not easy to watch.

Yes I know about highlighting disabilities and all that but once in a while there's a hint of exploitation in my view. As for Leo I just want to give him a big hug. 🫤

I’m inclined to agree with you MonickerMonica.

I had a relative with severe learning difficulties including Down’s syndrome. He loved watching tv but couldn’t grasp that it wasn’t real. A raised voice or the slightest hint of aggression on tv upset him.

When he lived with me I had to record the soaps and watch them after he went to bed as there’s usually argy bargy in every episode.

I often think of him when Leo is onscreen and wonder if he understands when he’s there in the midst of all drama that is just acting.

@Wishimaywishimight I totally agree with everything you've said. It's just misery after misery and I'm really fed up of it.
People on Instagram are shouting for April to get awards for her amazing acting but I don't get it. She's ok - when she arrived I found her a bit of a brat. She's nowhere near the level that Andy was when he was little.
When are we actually going to have something happy to watch?
Sick and tired of tragedy, affairs, illness and deaths.

Sorry if I've missed it but did we see/ know who picked her up in the car at the start of the storyline?

Just some randomer who gave her a lift. They didn't show his face as far as I can remember.

JaneJeffer · 05/02/2025 12:54

All I want to do in the evening is watch a bit of mild drama with a smattering of comedy and laugh at people's hats. Is that too much to ask for Emmerdale? We don't need more darkness in this world.

That's just ridiculous. Amelia doesn't deserve any awards for last night. She was decent enough but I thought the topic was just too big for her to handle. I thought the other young actors last night were much better and actually showed April up a bit.

And yes, when compared to Kelvin Fletcher's Andy at a similar age there is no comparison as he was a brilliant little actor. Shame Emmerdale chose to have him topless a lot as an adult actor rather than let his acting do the talking.

You know what's coming tonight. Marlon gurning and flapping his arms about. Could be comedic 😂

RaraRachael · 05/02/2025 13:01

I'm presuming April has been taken to hospital so will we have Marlon limping around shouting at medical staff?

Note to Emmerdale scriptwriters - This is NOT entertainment. Please stop with it.

dottyshihtzu · 05/02/2025 14:04

When did April get the pill from Manpreet? I'd assumed it was not long before she went missing, but she'd have already been pregnant then.

The soaps do feel relentlessly grim lately. Grooming, stabbings/murder, attempted murder, domestic abuse, suicidal feelings, mental breakdowns, horrible illnesses...I get wanting to highlight certain issues but the misery just feels nonstop 😩

RaraRachael · 05/02/2025 14:08

I think April would be more believable if she looked her age. They used to recast if a young actor had to deal with a gritter storyline.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 05/02/2025 14:17

I suppose they think Nicola and Laurel acting like Laurel and Hardy is comedy. I never thought I'd miss the days of Paddy and Marlon's bromance/games nights.

It's so damn depressing. Why all the stories at once, too?

PrincessScarlett · 05/02/2025 14:35

@dottyshihtzu I think Manpreet disclosed in the pub of all places when April first went missing that April had been to see her about going on the pill. I guess that was meant to be a clue to us viewers that she was sexually active even though she doesn't go anywhere other than school.

Yep agree with this it’s hard to believe as she looks v young like about 10. It’s not been handled well at all and showing that episode last night so early was wrong 😑

JewelleryCat · 05/02/2025 14:39

Oh yes, I remember that now. Bit weird of a clue especially how the pill is used for other things like periods

marshmallowmix · 05/02/2025 14:40

They need to stop with missing out whole backstories and flash backs it’s irritating 😠 that was quite another level last night !

I think Rhona or someone else suggested it could be used for other reasons than not wanting to get pregnant but it was very much a blink and you miss it discussion.

Honestly, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm surprised the surgery hasn't been shut down with all the indiscretions and total lack of professionalism.

Middlemarch123 · 05/02/2025 15:33

I’m pretty good at guessing kids ages, having taught them for years. I would say that April looks year 8, about 12 or 13. She walks like a younger kid, and has mannerisms that match a younger kid as well. I agree with everyone who thinks they should have recast the actress for someone more suited to such a harrowing storyline.

I don’t think her performance was award winning at all, yes she seemed vulnerable, but lacked the gravatis to really deliver it well.
Best youngster in a soap this year has to be Mason in Corrie, he was amazing.
April actress is a lightweight in comparison.

Are we ready for stunned, shocked, tearful, confused, bewildered Marlon, who with all the angst driven hand flapping, windmill arms, nodding head , twitching and blubbing will be like the Duracell bunny on acid.
We need a special warning to cope with the muppet.

marshmallowmix · 05/02/2025 15:43

Yep Mason was brilliant in Corrie …totally agree the April actor is not strong enough for that part and agree she looks way too young…

marshmallowmix · 05/02/2025 15:47

her real life siblings are in Corrie Hope & Joseph… so whole family in soaps as child actors

RaraRachael · 05/02/2025 15:50

The problem with child actors is that they might be quite good as little kids but there's no guarantee they'll still be good as they get older hence the need for recasting sometimes

Plus Heath was her uncle

I don’t think that matters in Emmerdale.

JaneJeffer · 05/02/2025 16:05

Amelia Flanagan who plays April is 16 in real life, will be 17 in June. Definitely looks much younger, agree that she looks 12 or 13 tops.

strugglingwithlife · 05/02/2025 17:52

I was surprised when I saw her real age, she really does only look about 12
