Ghosts US - is it as good?

DD(12) and I have just binged the UK series of Ghosts and we absolutely loved it. I mean really, really loved it.

We have just tried the first episode of the US version and did not find it that good. Is it worth persevering?

Or perhaps someone has any other recommendations for a series that I could watch with a 12 year old?

Thank you in advance.

A bit on the nose, it's not as organic as Ghosts UK, it's clearly a bit of copy&paste there

It’s worth sticking with it. The first few episodes are a chore but it does get better.
I don't envy anyone trying to follow our Ghosts, it is sublime 👻

I'm a big fan of the UK Ghosts and watched two episodes of the US version but I just couldn't get on with it. I don't think the characters or acting where nearly as good. One of the things I love most about the UK version is that every time I watch is, I notice a character doing something I'd never noticed before, some little facial expression or reaction. The US cast didn't seem to do this and the whole thing just felt a bit flatter as a result.

I preferred US Ghosts tbh. I'm waiting on the next few episodes as it seems to keep dropping, for some reason. 😐

I was surprised how much I enjoyed the US Ghosts. You need to watch it as a completely different show to the original. I've come to really like the characters and the quirky-ness of it. It's also pretty rude which took some getting used to. It's definitely not pre-watershed watching!

I'm looking forward to watching more.

DS2 and I enjoyed US Ghosts. DS1 didn't as he thought it poor compared to UK one. I'd suggest having a break before starting it to avoid so many direct comparisons.
It is still good, just not an exact copy paste (and the better for not trying to do that).

I loved it! I like the fact they had more characters and they do see other ghosts occasionally (don’t want to drop any spoilers!) so they’re not as limited with the storylines. I also much preferred Jay to Mike (better character and better acting!) It is different though so I agree with others - don’t expect a carbon copy.
My kids are young so I don’t know what’s ok for 12 year olds to watch, but the ghosts have sex, obviously not seen but referenced!

Just reviving this thread to say Series 3 onwards this was so enjoyable! it finds it's way and has it's own identity and is absolutely great

OhTheProblemIsDefinitelyMe · 27/09/2025 13:37

I’ve watched the U.K. one a couple of times, I might now make it a 3rd.
I haven’t managed to get through the whole of the US version. The acting is awful and it isn’t humorous all imo. It’s very flat.

Watched a few episodes of the US one bit really didn’t like it and found it uncomfortably sexually explicit to watch with 11 yr old (at the time). Suggest you tryHere We Go. Very funny show, DD who is 12 absolutely loves it and watches on repeat. Has the scout leader from Ghosts playing the dad.

parmaviolas · 27/09/2025 15:28

I really enjoyed it, but it is different. Not a sit round with the family type show and with so many episodes and storylines they don't all hit perfectly, but enough do for it to be very entertaining.

Colddayhotcuppa · 27/09/2025 18:06

oh yes it's very adult in places! definitely not a family watch
