I can't find a thread on this?
Season 1 was the best TV of the year imo in 2023. I'm just rewatching season one before I start S2.
I love it. The characters, the history, the settings and the music ( well the punk and rock).
I'm aware that Paddy Maine's family are unhappy with it but it's a fictional account and even if inaccurate I love Jack O'Connell's version.

I can confirm (agreeing with cocolapew) that O’Connell’s accident is indeed Dick Van Dyke-esque levels of bad for us in NI. It’s over enunciatiated and most of the time it’s as if he’s orating, even if he’s just sitting across a table from someone. I wasn’t sure if it was a deliberate choice to make him seem even more ‘mad’, or if it was just Jack O’Connell could only manage to do the accent when he was channelling Ian Paisley. It’s also a broad Belfast twang and not quite right for a well to do solicitor from Newtownards- and not a mention of the fact he played rugby for Ireland or the British Lions or was a champion boxer, huge achievements which you think would have come up. I really like Jack O’Connell but I would have preferred him in another role in this, with someone else (by which I mean, Jamie Dornan) portraying Paddy Mayne.

On the upside, watching this with DH, now out of the army for 5 years, is the first time he’s been enthusiastic about something even mildly army related. He even suggested watching Band Of Brothers after we finished Rogue Heroes tonight. I said “Sure you told me before you thought it was overrated?”, and he went, “Yeah, but it was a bit busman’s-‘oliday then wasn’t it?”.
