What was riveting in 2024?

As the year draws to a close, I reflect on some excellent TV drama series. What would your favourites be? Mine, in no particular order would have to include:

Succession
Wolf Hall
Mr Loverman
After the Party
Strike (detective series from the books by JK Rowling with pseudonym Robert Galbraith)

@PollyCreo Love Steve Carell. Played a very serious character (brilliantly) in the American drama The Morning Show.

Forgot to add that one. Great cast (Billy Crudup, Jennifer Aniston, Reece Witherspoon and Carell)

I'll need to try The Morning Show, such a brilliant cast but for some reason the premise never grabbed me 🤔

It's a hard subject matter, agreed, but there's plenty of humour and great sub plots in it too. Reece Witherspoon shines especially and Aniston makes the most of playing a conflicted, ambitious woman, not at all nice. But they all develop their characters and become quite different by season 2.

I'll add shrinking to the mix. It's actually a comedy but has some sad and serious undertones. Just finished season 2 and my heart is still in my mouth. Harrison ford is excellent in it.

We also really enjoyed Ludwig.
Disclaimer was good too.

For All Mankind - an alternative version of events, following the Russians landing on moon first. Very good.
The Morning Show, - wasn’t initially drawn to it, but Anniston, Crudup and Witherspoon are excellent in it.

Severance - series 1, very good. 2nd series coming in January.
Black Bird
Criminal Record with Peter Capaldi & Cush Jumbo
Shining Girls with Elisabeth Moss - loved this
Five days at Memorial - dramatisation of the days following Hurricane Katrina

On paramount enjoyed

Yellowstone - all 5 series. Loved this show. Not watched prequels yet.

Yellowjackets. series 1, not watched series. 2 yet.
Mayor of Kingstown with Jeremy Renner, loved it but dark themes and lots of violence.

Dune Prophecy - if you are into Dune. I read the books as a sci fi/fantasy loving kid, been great revisiting the worlds in the new films/series.

For me it’s Slow Horses on Apple, absolutely superb.

Also enjoyed Red Eye, the Night Agent and Mr Bates
