Yay! Think she’ll be really good

Does she not consider herself MC, then? She was in the same class as my son - private Edinburgh school, very high Tory and snobby. My son was expelled invited to leave but I imagine she carried on.

I dont know but she has written extensively about her working class upbringing

That's good. She will actually be able to give constructive criticism, too.

With any luck, she'll teach John how to pronounce "turmeric".

And teach Marcus to say celeriac rather than celery-ac

I’m afraid I don’t agree. I think the presenter to replace Wallace should have been more of an ‘Everyman’. Someone who could ask questions that the viewer wants asking. (And I find her annoying for reasons I can’t put my finger on).

The 'Everyman' needs some time to catch up with how the world doesn't revolve around him anymore

CurlewKate · 18/12/2024 23:56

@TheDowagerCountessofPembroke "I’m afraid I don’t agree. I think the presenter to replace Wallace should have been more of an ‘Everyman’. "

I agree. And for all his many faults, Wallace was brilliant at that.

I love Grace Dent too. But I do worry about her. I'm sure her mental health is not good, and I'm not sure it'll be good for her.

Moonshine5 · 19/12/2024 00:03

Not a fan. Find her annoying.

She went to school in Carlisle, didn't she?

Are you sure you’ve got the right person there? She grew up and went to school in Carlisle I think.

SwedishEdith · 19/12/2024 00:19

I'm not mad on her but can't readily think of another female it could be. Andi Oliver maybe?Matt Tebutt (sp?) could replace John Torode but doubt he'd want to give up Saturday Kitchen. James Martin could do it.

I really like her but she has publicly said she has or has previously had an ED, I think its why she left The Jungle in IA Celebrity so I hope its the right thing for her.

What's an ED?

SwedishEdith · 19/12/2024 00:25

Binman · 19/12/2024 00:19

What's an ED?

Eating disorder.

I read her book and still never really worked out how she ended up as a food critic. But then, how does anyone, I suppose?

SnowFrogJelly · 19/12/2024 00:33

Yay! Love her 🩷

You do understand that ‘Everyman’ doesn’t literally mean man, right?

What I mean is that they need an ordinary person who might not be familiar with, or at least can pretend not to be familiar with, some of the terms or techniques used by chefs. It’s why Doctor Who has a companion for example, someone to explain things to or to ask questions that the people sat at home want to ask.

CurlewKate · 19/12/2024 12:00

Pretty sure Grace Dent didn't go to a posh school in Edinburgh. Not quite the "gotcha" the poster intended.

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/12/2024 22:22

I find her quite affected and ‘try hard’. I’d like Jay Rayner on there and a female chef like Lisa Goodwin Allen perhaps.

BotterMon · 20/12/2024 17:30

Best news. Glad it's not a Mr & Mrs T show. Nothing against her personally but not a fan of couples hosting stuff together - a bit twee.

It is yes, and there is something quite insipid about Lisa, I prefer her as an actress, think she’s great, but she’s no presenting chef. and John becomes even more insipid when presenting with her. It is a veritable cornucopia of insipidness when they are together, like the dull woke couple at parents night.

Their cooking show is an utter yawn fest.

It'll really piss Greggggg off that she's a MC woman of a certain age too Grin

But yes - also love her, great choice

This!
Although she'd probably argue with you about the MC bit.

I hear you, however it's highly unlikely that over a 20 year working partnership John did not witness anything or even hear via others on the show. That's my issue that I just can't get past I'm afraid!

Maybe that's why they're not friends?

I think if you witness a colleague sexually harassing juniors then "not being friends" with them is probably below the base line of behaviour I'd expect.
