I really liked it

PaintedPottery · 14/12/2024 22:10

I enjoyed it. My 13 year old is a huge fan and was crying with laughter!

MumOfOneAllAlone · 14/12/2024 22:26

Maybe I'm just being mardy today, couldn't enjoy it

I did giggle, I suppose, when he said he ordered dog food at a hotel

Exactly my thoughts too but I assumed my taste had changed. Too much men stuff for me. Farts, penises, men in loos.

I had my name down for tickets and all I could think was glad I removed it.

Radionowhere · 14/12/2024 22:46

Same OP. Bit disappointing. The dog food story was funny.

Is there something that Michael isn't telling us about?!

OAPapparently · 14/12/2024 22:48

I felt the same.
The dog food joke was the only funny bit.

FizzyBisto · 14/12/2024 22:48

The silent letters in words stuff was funny, but was far too drawn out, long after we'd all got the point and laughed.

Onand · 14/12/2024 22:48

Can’t stand him, not remotely funny at all.

FizzyBisto · 14/12/2024 22:56

I presume he knows his audience and doesn't want to limit it by excluding the people who need the jokes fully explaining and expanding on.

He actually seemed quite surprised when the audience there got the joke about the eggs benedict/egg-white omelette long before he'd begun to 'show his working'.

daffodilandtulip · 14/12/2024 22:56

Oh I thought it was just me being on my period 🤣

TizerorFizz · 14/12/2024 22:59

We had a good laugh! Funny. As always.

Yeah agree with this

I thought the silent letters but was great - part of his skill is actually remembering such a long sequence and I was impressed as well as amused.

Doitrightnow · 14/12/2024 23:11

I saw him live this year and I didn't think it was as good either. It felt a bit formulaic, like all the jokes were variations of jokes I'd already heard in previous tours.

Didn't like all the alcohol jokes either.

I do usually really like him though.

TizerorFizz · 14/12/2024 23:12

We enjoyed the kidney stones story. Good fun!

zeibesaffron · 14/12/2024 23:15

I think he has got lazy joke wise - I have seen him live a few times and his jokes are all
quite similar.

Of course he wasn't surprised, that was part of the joke. In fact a lot of punchlines were predictable tonight.
Maybe that's how he differed from the past. He was very much an observational comedian, tonight it was jokes, some long, drawn out jokes,

Solent123 · 14/12/2024 23:32

I've seen him live before and thought he was brilliant, but tonight was dull.

WhoStoleYourHighHorse · 14/12/2024 23:42

He is simply not funny. I can’t watch anything he is on, he has mastered mediocrity.

Whether he was truly surprised or just knowingly pretending to be surprised as part of the joke, there's surely no denying that he often does draw out/labour some jokes - as he did tonight?!

I'm sure there's always the temptation for comedians to figure out that, if they found that funny, I can keep saying other extremely similar things, and they must then find them funny as well, as it's effectively the same joke... but there's a limit after which people just snap, and then you ruin all the good work of the original bit that was genuinely original and funny.

I'm not a particular fan of Ken Dodd (for example), but he would always be several steps ahead of the audience with a barrage of humour, whilst they were still catching up with the previous joke that he'd just told; you never want it to be the other way around, with the audience ahead of (and getting wearied by) you.

Same! Hes awful!

I think his strength very much lies in using his humour and charm when he's presenting a multi-faceted show (such as The Wheel or MM's Big Show), rather than his humour alone being the sole vehicle.

I think, much as I liked his gameshows, somebody like Bob Monkhouse often seemed restricted by having to present a show as the main thing, and add in his humour, rather than just being able to stand up and fire out his jokes; I wonder if Michael is possibly the opposite to Bob in that?

Sadtosaythis · 15/12/2024 00:00

We thought it was hilarious. Best laugh out loud I’ve had in ages. Mixed age group watching from 20 up to 47 and we all howled throughout.
