I live Michael Mcintyre but I'm sat, not laughing, at this BBC 25th special

I think that’s why I can’t watch him- he’s plays a comedic buffoon for the BGT viewers and I’m a celeb devotees just the same formula churned out every year. Mediocre humour for the adverts demographic.

Yeah, everything on itv is so formulaic and this show felt the same unfortunately

i was in absolute stiches, it was great imo, i always liked him, and enjoy The Wheel due to him!
we all have different tastes

CombatLingerie · 15/12/2024 17:01

@BlackStrayCat Stanley Tucci is a very very good actor.

WingBingo · 15/12/2024 17:15

I was crying with laughter over the eggs and the dog food.

ShelleyCarpenter · 16/12/2024 04:15

I didn’t realise this was going to be the same show I saw live last year. I didn’t laugh then or now. He said the same stuff to us about us getting the Eggs Benedict/egg white omelette joke before he had spelled it out.

This is semi-serious, but I wonder if our nation's experiences of Boris over the past years have sharply reframed our collective fascination with and tolerance of 'lovable comedic buffoons'?!

I’d say there’s a strong correlation between the country having Boris Johnson for PM and a Michael McIntyre Christmas special on prime time tv. 🫢

Vitriolinsanity · 16/12/2024 19:25

I too was screaming with laughter. MM hits my funnybone right on.

Vitriolinsanity · 16/12/2024 19:30

Boris Johnson does not.

Also don't watch IAC or BGT.

OneCoralRaven · 16/12/2024 19:31

It’s because he’s not funny and never has been.

Beansandneedles · 16/12/2024 19:33

PiggyPigalle · 14/12/2024 22:42

Exactly my thoughts too but I assumed my taste had changed. Too much men stuff for me. Farts, penises, men in loos.

I had my name down for tickets and all I could think was glad I removed it.

I was crying laughing at the dog food bit but agree the rest was a bit too much of this which didn't seem like the usual vibe.

Vitriolinsanity · 16/12/2024 19:39

Well that's demonstrably not true for other people.

I don't enjoy Monty Python, Only Fools and Horses, the Office or Fawlty Towers. Objectively I can see millions do, many of whom would be baffled that I smile but don't laugh until I'm breathless. Many of whom spend much time convincing me why I should.

Life would be dull if we all enjoyed the same thing, no?

Clearly you didn’t appreciate my sense of humour…

DD (16) and me found it hilarious.

Ken Dodd/Bob Monkhouse? Really?

As PP said, it is personal (and often generational) what you find funny.

Stanley Tucci was crying with laughter!

I'm of a certain age, so my mind went straight to some of the more 'old-school' comedians. However, there are plenty of modern-day comedians from whom I could have chosen - Kevin Bridges, Milton Jones, Gary Delaney to name just three.

Please don't misunderstand me: I love The Wheel and I think Michael does an amazing job hosting it. The reaction to the show has been lukewarm in the other countries where it's been broadcast - even though the host in Sweden was the inimitable and wonderful Petra Mede.

I just think that his greater strength lies in hosting and reactionary comedy (i.e. playing off the funny comments and situations that arise with other featured guests) - rather than alone, as a stand-up, bringing his own (whether written by or for him) material, with nobody else to bounce off.

Magicpaintbrush · 16/12/2024 23:08

My family and I really enjoyed this - MM is very funny and an excellent showman. Others may not agree, but it's all personal taste - I don't find Jimmy Carr or Frankie Boyle or Nina Conti funny, I'd go out of my way to avoid Keith Lemon, but some people must do or they wouldn't go to see them. I find MM very funny, so do my family, and it was nice to see my DH laughing as he's really poorly, it cheered him up and he needed cheering up.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 17/12/2024 07:17

I like The Wheel, and his other Saturday night show, and used to think his stand up was quite funny, but I watched this last night and didn't manage even a smile, I thought it was dull and incredibly drawn out. Seeing the celebs roaring with laughter made me wonder how much they were being paid to be there.

I used to love Nina Conti when she first came on to the scene, but I find her (repetitive) act repulsive now.

Yes, the idea of a pretty, innocent-looking young woman trying to tame a filthy monkey was funny at first - but it got old so quickly.

The only other thing she seems to do now is humiliate unsuspecting people using those ugly dentist aid things - not my idea of entertainment at all.

fairytailcat · 17/12/2024 14:15

Who are you people who find MM amusing?

Criiiiiiiinge

MumOfOneAllAlone · 17/12/2024 18:41

Everyone, it's okay! Kevin Bridges has his stand up show 'The Overdue Catchup' on BBC 1 on Thursday at 10.40pm - it'll be watched on the iplayer the next day for me
