I've read some things about survivor guilt, people deliberately putting themselves at risk etc, it seems very odd to us now but I wonder if it all looked very different in the 80s and 90s to gay men. Can't see it as a sane choice myself though.

Apparently the salt was passed to her on the promise of a main part in a film plus £3m as long as she showed her ‘bad girl’ side. Even though she wasn’t an actress. Or something like that. She definitely didn’t know who sold her the salt nor that they were a salt dealer. It was all on camera but it didn’t show her in a truthful way.
