I can’t find a thread for this, so am starting one.

This new series started on Sky on Thursday.

“An unrivaled and highly elusive assassin known only as the Jackal makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. However, following his latest kill he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer, who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.”

Just watched episode 1. I really enjoyed it, and I feel like it’s going to be a series to binge.

Anyone else watching it?

I want to re-read the book first. Read many years ago and just couldn’t put it down but worried it may not be as good the second time.

Watched 5 episodes over 2 nights so up to date. It’s stylish and fast faced, feels a bit James Bondy but from the time it didn’t take itself too seriously.

Visited Zagreb in Croatia last year so had fun spotting sites when they were in “Munich”

The first 5 dropped together and then they are releasing the rest weekly. Have watched the first 3; loved it.

It is only very loosely based on the book and is nothing like the film. they’ve taken the idea of The Jackal and given him another life. It’s a little bit slow but very enjoyable. We watched two episodes and so far Eddie Redmayne has had very few lines to actually speak.

I enjoyed it but don't think Eddie Redmayne is right for the part. He's just not believable as a psychopath. Too squeaky clean.

He's also painfully thin... so if they're trying to make him into a sex symbol I'm afraid it's not working.

I'm annoyed I didn't know they were doing a staggered release. I'd have waited until all the episodes had been released if I'd known. Hate having to wait for episodes!

I think that's the point - jackal does not look like a typical assassin. He easily escapes attention.

@noworklifebalance Sorry, this rambling is not about the TV show. I probably won't be watching as I don't like Eddie Redmayne.

It's a long while since I've read Frederick Forsyth, but you've reminded me just how good he was. I'll have to give at least one book a re-read, just to dip my toe back in the water.

Edward Fox was so good in the first movie. Utterly soulless and spine chilling. A bit like a Terminator before there were Terminators. The remake with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere was a bit ho hum, and I remember a bad Irish accent.

Just looked on Fantastic Fiction and saw that there is a followup to the Odessa File published this year.
