That's me not watching the Christmas special then. Jesus wept.

Runningupthecurtains · 12/11/2024 18:38

So not content with the men out numbering the women in the main series they are having a man pretending to be a woman at Christmas. Presumably at the expense of an actual woman. 🙄

EsmaCannonball · 12/11/2024 18:38

Drag queen on the Christmas Special. After having 50% more male celebs on the main show I will be annoyed if this happens on the Christmas show too. It feels like Strictly has taken a bizarrely anti-woman turn this year, like their reaction to the whole Amanda/Zara thing is to double-down and become exclusionary if you are female.

xsquared · 12/11/2024 18:54

Oh for fucks' sake. Oh well I'll make sure we have plenty of board games in then.

the80sweregreat · 12/11/2024 19:10

Just tape the strictly ' Christmas special ' and fast forwards the bits you don't want to watch.
You can also fast forwards any show on I player.
I did this for the Halloween one as I was out that night and managed to cut out a lot! Not sure why I haven't thought of it before with other shows tbh!

TheShellBeach · 12/11/2024 19:14

Drag Queen on the Christmas Special

Ah. Then we won't be watching it.
Hmm

Too right. The way Fleur was guffawing over that person was nauseating.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/11/2024 19:24

I preferred the Christmas Special the year of the Pandemic when they did a retrospective highlights package

Thank you.
I find the BBC's obsession with appearing woke absolutely infuriating.
They don't give a toss about women's rights. They've shown that over and over again.

Dear God, poor Kai 😢

Oooh that would be good again.

xsquared · 12/11/2024 20:57

Judging from the music choices for Blackpool, they seem to be going for a cheesy disco party vibe.

Only Tasha has sensible music for her dance, I think, although Chris' American smooth to a swing version of Jump might be okay.

I don't usually watch the Christmas special as it's not really the same standard as the full series.

HoopLaLah · 12/11/2024 21:23

Mymanyellow · 12/11/2024 10:28

Sarah and Vito said on it takes two last night going to do a bit of Bob Fosse. Makes a change from barefoot contemporary.

Ooh, excited about a bit of theatre jazz / Fosse.

How are Sarah and Vito going to do a Fosse vibe to Padam Padam?

Also have the Strictly producers decided that it is no longer a family show? Or have they not bothered to listen to the lyrics of Padam Padam “I know you want to take me home and take off all my clothes”?

RainbowSnake · 12/11/2024 23:20

I think Pete and Jamie could be in trouble this week with those song choices and dances. I have high hopes for Montell’s salsa and I’m glad that Sarah isn’t going for the contempowaft CC. Odd song choice for her though.

TheBell · 12/11/2024 23:45

I missed the name of the second celebrity announced for the Christmas show but ugh ..so rude and ungracious. How’s that gonna work out Christmas tea time ?

They often miss out bits of songs to make them shorter - with luck they’ll cut those bits.

RememberRememberTheMonthofNovember · 13/11/2024 00:02

On that point, referring to people as The Rev this and Dr that. That is their professional role. Just call them Punam, Ranj, Richard, Kate or whatever (yes I fully expect to see Kate Bottley there in the future)

These are TV and radio celebrities, and that’s how they are known on tv and radio. I don’t like them called that in their other shows, either, but at least it’s consistent.

autienotnaughty · 13/11/2024 03:29

I felt like Pete should have been in the dance off but his sob story kept him in .

Gynne should have left.

Well, he clearly went to say bitch but changed it to something less misogynistic more appropriate for a 6.30pm show.

the80sweregreat · 13/11/2024 06:52

I don't mind Kylie, but this particular song was awful , played to death on radio 2 last year and has dubious lyrics.
Sarah choosing this song is strange, but maybe KM is her heroine or something like that !

SpeculatingRooks · 13/11/2024 08:02

I think Sarah might be getting a skewed view of her own popularity.
I'm only voting for her for Vito! I've never watched Miranda in my life.

xsquared · 13/11/2024 08:18

Sarah seems to be pretty popular here, but I've never watched an episode of Miranda or seen her in anything, so I clearly don't get the hype.

Her dancing is great and Vito is doing a good job with her, but otherwise not fussed about her. I usually love Vito but I find their partnership and their displays of affection a bit OTT.

MarkWithaC · 13/11/2024 08:23

mydogisthebest · 12/11/2024 16:55

So as well as wanting to know who decides what dances each couple do I also want to know when they are given Couples Choice who decides what sort of "dance" it is going to be.

I would love to know if it is their celeb partner who decides or someone else. How does whoever it is know that their nan/mum/dog died x amount of years ago and they conveniently have a song to remind them of it?

I imagine it's a team of pro, sleb, production and maybe a choreographer (brought in a bit later). I think at the start of the show they ask them for, basically, their life story, and plan when they're going to talk about what parts in training videos/get friends and family in to watch them train etc. For CC I think they explain the idea and ask what from their life they'd like to 'share'.
