Pete's Nan died over two years ago now. I thought it was last week, from the way the evening went. I was quite surprised.
I don't want to have emotive personal content milked for entertainment. I really don't care about personal journeys and their problems. I sound harsh don't I? But I want to be entertained by dancing. IMO there is far too much emphasis on celebrities and their personal issues. I know it's a good thing that we don't shy away from talking, but it's gone far too far the other way now. Everyone has to have an issue to overcome.
Chris has never talked about his sight. Lauren Steadman never mentioned her problems in having one and a half arms. Jonnie Peacock didn't. I really don't want to see any more:
Couples Choices UNLESS they are a specific dance style and not a personal indulgence
Any dead nans, being bullied at school or any other personal issues being used
Comedy routines that are themed in non-theme weeks (Judy Murray and Sam Quek with sports stuff, Paul Merson and Vindaloo, Richard Coles as an angel, Ranj with a stethoscope). It's not funny and it's not entertaining
On that point, referring to people as The Rev this and Dr that. That is their professional role. Just call them Punam, Ranj, Richard, Kate or whatever (yes I fully expect to see Kate Bottley there in the future)
Dressing people up in stupid costumes. I still remember Simon Rimmer looking an absolute fool dressed as Buzz Lightyear and Nick Knowles in his pyjamas, Scott Mills as a bloody sea creature
Judges' antics (Whooooaaaaa before a 10 paddle emerges for one. The falling off the chair has stopped now Bruno has gone but that sort of thing)
I still have it as an unmissable watch but I am irritated by some aspects, too.
