KEEP DANCING

Two scores would be good.
I always think a 10 should be pretty much free of any technical points to improve.
Week1 should be more 3, 4, 5, 6 to allow for progression.

I care about entertainment value though. I've tended to find Wynne more entertaining than Shane so I'm not upset about the result. I don't think either is material to get to the last few weeks so the order of knockout isn't bothering me greatly.

It was a decent Rumba, but if you took the pro out of both dances, Wynne did more (might not be a fair competition by dance type)

CaveMum · 10/11/2024 22:36

I thought Shane’s rumba was good for a make celeb, but to be quite honest I was looking more at Nancy’s feet! They were bloody gorgeous.

I think the Dance Off was pretty tight so a split decision made sense to me. On a coin toss I’d probably have picked Wynne too.

MrsPeterHarris · 10/11/2024 22:36

Completely agree @EsmaCannonball - it is really bizarre & no mention of the big anniversary at all. I'd hoped for more nostalgia through the episodes.

I assume it's because of all the AA & Gio controversy.

tennissquare · 10/11/2024 22:53

Agree too @EsmaCannonball , it's really lost something this year. I normally watch dances back several times but have hardly bothered this year and the costumes are terrible.

RememberRememberTheMonthofNovember · 10/11/2024 22:53

I think it would be fairest if all the couples did the same dance each week, eg Charleston week 1, samba week 2, etc. It would be easier to compare them, but it would be less interesting to watch. Would it? The music and choreography would be different.

As asked upthread, who does decide which couple does what each week, apart from the CC which I imagine is the choice of the couple themselves?

RememberRememberTheMonthofNovember · 10/11/2024 22:54

Runningupthecurtains · 10/11/2024 22:06

I could live with two scores - a technical one and an entertainment one, with the technical mark having greater weight in event of a tie. It would enable judges to acknowledge entering routines without having to completely overlook technique, give space for early 'high' score but still give room for improvement across the series and reduce the number of ties on the leaderboard.

Yes, as could I.

CaveMum · 10/11/2024 23:06

Another problem is that there are too many dances now, meaning even if you get to the Final you get away with not doing at least 2 dances (might be 3 now).

By rights they should all be doing the 10 main dances with the extras once they do 2 dances (perhaps this should start earlier?). Couples Choice can be dropped entirely as let’s face it, it’s just another Show Dance which should saved for the Final.

MrsPeterHarris · 10/11/2024 23:25

When Amy was interviewed this week (think it was on Lorraine) she said she had argued with producers (& she won the argument) to get all the horrible dances out of the way for JB & they only have fun dances left, so she's gutted to be missing them.

She said she knew the order of the dances JB has left but she couldn't give that away.

MrsPeterHarris · 10/11/2024 23:26

That was to @RememberRememberTheMonthofNovember

GoldenPheasant · 10/11/2024 23:35

The only theme week I enjoy is Musicals week, probably because the music is generally so much better fitted to dance. I wish they had it earlier in the series so that we could get to see more dances.

RememberRememberTheMonthofNovember · 10/11/2024 23:53

Very helpful, @MrsPeterHarris , thank you.

There's a certain confidence to think that her couple would be in the show for long enough - even though they are doing the "horrible" dances - to get to the fun ones.

Even before Week One I wonder if the professional dancers have a good idea how long their celebrities will last, and how often they are surprised.

MinaHarker1897 · 11/11/2024 00:39

Shirley has been responding to people on Twitter. I wouldn't have even bothered.

I think instead of some of the theme weeks they should have a rumba week and a samba week- or have a rule that rumba or samba are never introduced until later in the competition as it's so hard to do well in them.

All the pros agree an order but that statement is interesting given that JB has done:
waltz, cha cha, AS, rumba, jive, foxtrot

cc, samba, QS

Has tango, viennese, paso, salsa, AT, charleston left: the speciality dances are usually outside choreographed so many pros leave one or two for the end so they're not having to choreo two at once?
Perhaps QS/tango/paso/charleston are crowdpleasers but I always thought of Amy as >ballroom than Latin? AS and jive early doors ought to have been good for him (the latter wasn't which was weird as he'd won the Xmas Glitterball with jive).

Karim's trajectory:
cha cha, foxtrot, samba, tango, salsa, paso, QS, viennese, charleston, contemporary, jive, AT, AS

They used to do this in the early series - I think there were two dances each week and everyone did one of the two. Much easier to compare the dancers and no accusations of favouritism etc. (e.g. Pete getting the free pass to Blackpool thanks to his dead nan while others did technically
much more challenging routines). I suspect that as the show has grown the producers feel it would be boring to watch 8 jives and 8 argentine tangos so have ditched that approach.

Couples choice should go IMO. In a few cases it’s brilliant, where the celeb gets to showcase a different kind of dance to music they love (e.g. Punam, Jamie from Made in Chelsea), but mostly it’s all about wafting around barefoot emoting about a dead relative or pet, or being bullied at school, and is really tedious.

TheBell · 11/11/2024 08:39

Couldn’t agree more about ditching couples choice. Throws off all the marking and is really cringe. How can Shirley be so delulu giving PW a 10? Because she’s a nan?
Glad Wynne got through to Blackpool- not sure why people are surprised since he scored higher than Shayne. Besides, Katya is the queen of choreography 👸🏻👸🏻👸🏻. Do you think Katya would make a good judge?

ChessieFL · 11/11/2024 09:02

Amy is a former British National Latin Dance champion so that suggests her strength definitely is the Latin rather than the ballroom!

januaryjan · 11/11/2024 09:07

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/11/2024 22:33

The costumes as well @EsmaCannonball Katya and Wynne looked like two completely different themes.

The costumes as a whole have left a lot to be desired. The blue dress Tash wore, although she is a stunning looking girl, looked more like the top of a samba dress, and took away from the whole feel/formality of the dance.

Some dances are all about, legs, knicker flashing, bare midriffs, shaking what your mamma gave ya, but ballroom is more formal, and I dislike the crossover that seems to be happening with the costumes, for example, Jamie dancing in shorts.

I suppose the feeling is, (by some viewers), that Shayne was undermarked, and should have never been below Wynne on the scoreboard, in the first place.

I think he was undermarked throughout the series, and that certain judges, especially on Halloween week, looked for any reason, down to which side his hair was parted on, or what way the wind was blowing on a Tuesday morning, to keep him at a low score.

On Halloween week, Anton appeared to struggle to explain the low scores given to Shayne, by himself and Shirley, when Claudia asked him , in her den of Claudianess, what was going on with the low marking sort-of-thing when the dance was so good.

Throwing out a ten to Pete for a dance that was worth, on a good day, a seven, highlights that some judges are scoring on who they personally like, and not on the ability of the celebs, and this is making a farce out of the competition.

Samcro · 11/11/2024 09:37

what has happened to the Charleston ? has anyone done it this series.

I will keep voting for pete. I prefer a novice like him to a ringer.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/11/2024 09:41

Sam, Nick (I think) and Tasha have all done Charlestons.

There have been a few - Sam with hockey sticks, Nick Knowles Paddington, Tasha, very un Charleston-y Charleston with a selfie stick but none for several weeks now.
But we seem to have had more Sambas than contestants so hopefully we don't have to sit through another one until next year.

Yes, usually there has been some amazing stand out dance by this stage and I can't think of one I'd like to watch again. Apart from Punam's Bollywood one, but that wasn't 10-worthy either.

I agree. Punam's and Chris' first dance (as I really didn't know what to expect) were the standout dances to me this year

When I think of Jay McGuinness not getting a 40 for his jive 'because it's only week 3' I could cry.

i forgot them. I would love to see Montel do one.

Best not watch the hotly anticipated Sambathon runningupcurtains Grin
