I agreed with the decision - Wynne's dance had more content and was much more entertaining.

I've just realised that Sarah and Chris got the same mark. I love Chris and think that what he and Diane are doing is amazing, but surely his technique is nowhere near Sarah's? Are the judges marking to his capabilities - taking into account the fact he can't look at himself in a mirror when rehearsing or at his partner when they perform? And if so, should they be? I genuinely don't know the answer to that.

Yes I'm thinking the same

mydogisthebest · 10/11/2024 20:28

I'd like to know who chooses which dances the couples do each week. Giving Pete couples choice literally guaranteed him getting to Blackpool.

Yes and all the nan nonsense

Choux · 10/11/2024 20:44

Well Chris got the Couple's Choice boost this week. He will be back down near the bottom of the leaderboard next week.

But I think he must be getting huge chunks of the public vote each week so might not hit the dance off for two to three more weeks. The judges won't save him when he does fall into the DO.

suburburban · 10/11/2024 20:42

Yes and all the nan nonsense

Not to mention all the fucking themed weeks.

I hate them all like poison.

Stupid costumes and comedy routines.

Bring back real dancing.
And men in suits with women in lovely gowns.

Can you tell I'm just getting old
🤣

Hands up who's ever seen a "joyous" rumba?

Never seen a joyous rumba - however, when I think of Katya Virshalis trying to get Gavin Henson to emote for the rumba by telling him "I'm thinking sexy thoughts" and his reply... "Good for you!" Grin Now that was joyous! Wink

WillowTit · 10/11/2024 20:58

Figgygal · 10/11/2024 20:37

I hate Boe in Les Mis too
Shout shout SHOUT

IS That why Ball sings with him?
to make him sound better Wink

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 10/11/2024 20:58

Oh and Anton and Nancy Dell'lollipop's coffin rumba was joyous for all the wrong reasons.

Apart from Craig, the entire judging panel needs to be changed. Shirley and Anton are dreadful, just dreadful, and need to go- Motsi has slightly improved this year- but the way the tens are being thrown out like confetti, and people being saved by the judges for their personality rather than ability, just makes the whole scoring side of things ridiculous and ruins the whole competition.

I don't know how to explain it, but there doesn't seem to be the same structure or feel of the show ,or something, as there use to be a couple of years ago. Something has gone, (a certain essence, character or pizzazz, or something), from the whole show overall and this year it is very evident.

The show has been going for 20 years and they’ve been pushing the “this year is the best year ever” every year for the last several years. That’s what has led to the hyperbole and over marking. A 10 score doesn’t have the same value anymore. Because of that, instead of keeping it fresh and interesting, the “best year ever” spiel and the hyperbole has led to it being predictable and repetitive.

I think the other three judges need to take a leaf out of Craig’s book and be more consistent. Also dolling out high scores early in the series is a mistake as it leaves the judges nowhere to go later in the series.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 10/11/2024 21:05

Still not sure what Anton and Ann's Titanic rumba was Grin

chaosmaker · 10/11/2024 21:07

Maybe they'll have to start giving 10*'s like they do with gcse's

I think they are focusing too much on the stories of the celebs (like the X factor) and the relationships between the couples whereas before it was more focused on the dancing

Consistency in the scoring is definitely missing - A score of ten should be as rare as hens teeth, and only produced when everything about the performance, is faultless.

I'm struggling to pick one dance this season, that has actually deserved a ten.

Yes, usually there has been some amazing stand out dance by this stage and I can't think of one I'd like to watch again. Apart from Punam's Bollywood one, but that wasn't 10-worthy either.

To be fair, he was near the bottom this week too. His scores weren't as high as other CC's have been. I'm rooting for him, I thought he was great this week - I'd much rather see him go through than Pete or Wynne.

PerfectYear321 · 10/11/2024 21:29

I thought Shane was sexy in that routine. Gutted.

I've gone off Wynne ever since that weird 'joke' with Katya.

Unfortunately, you have a point.

Gone are the days when Bruno would be hanging over the judges desk, just to get a better look at the celebs footwork, so he could critique it properly.

Now it's all butts and big bare chests on show - and skimpy corsets with suspenders.

-and that's just the male dancers.😁

I agree. There's something magical about when the music, the clothes, the staging all come together to showcase amazing dancing.
This year there's been far too much focus on 'novelty' dances and themes. It's ruined the atmosphere of the dance.
But I also wonder whether the training room changes and fear of accusations of pushing the celebs too hard has impacted. There really hasn't been that standout partnership of chemistry, style and content.
Some dances have scored higher than done truly iconic past dances even though they're good but not outstanding.

Pumpkincozynights · 10/11/2024 21:34

Pete should have gone. In all honesty virtually any man could lift Jowvita. She is a trained dancer who can hold herself and enable her partner to lift her. She is also tiny. All he did was pick her up and let her dance around him. Completely overmarked. If any of the women celebs just let their partner lift them and then did what Pete did, they would not be marked as highly. Sarah and Jamie were under marked in my opinion.
The judging is so unbalanced.
I think it’s probably as well Shane has gone since he wasn’t popular with the viewers which was a shame.
I think Chris is amazing. Loved Sarah and Tasha’s dances too. I also thought Jamie did a superb job.

xsquared · 10/11/2024 21:39

Also agree that there hasn't really been a dance this series worthy of a 10, let alone 3!

musicalfrog · 10/11/2024 21:44

☹️ I was just warming up to Shayne.

Another reason why I don't like that there are so many on the starting line. It allows us to overlook some of the dark horses when actually we could (and should) have been taking notice a lot sooner.

chaosmaker · 10/11/2024 21:07

I could live with two scores - a technical one and an entertainment one, with the technical mark having greater weight in event of a tie. It would enable judges to acknowledge entering routines without having to completely overlook technique, give space for early 'high' score but still give room for improvement across the series and reduce the number of ties on the leaderboard.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 10/11/2024 22:14

Yes. They do this on the French version iirc.

Ebabllisstggoffor · 10/11/2024 22:29

It should have been Pete. He’s a lumbering flat footed disaster, and the dead Nan was definitely too much.

I also love Vito, he’s like a joyful puppy.

EsmaCannonball · 10/11/2024 22:29

I agree that the show has lost something this year. It's the twentieth anniversary but everything feels a bit flat and perfunctory and less of an event. It feels like there have been big budget cuts. You don't really see Dave Arch's band anymore because there are clearly only a handful of live musicians left in it. The little tweaks, like Claudia and Tess no longer coming down the stairs and the couples not entering to the Strictly theme tune, make the opening to the show less glitzy. The dreadful song choices make the routines seem like they belong on one of those other more generic dance shows the BBC has tried out over the years (which is odd, because all those shows flopped). There's nobody particularly engaging in the cast and the wrong pros were benched. IMO, it's the worst series since series 7, and at least that had Ricky Whittle.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/11/2024 22:33

The costumes as well @EsmaCannonball Katya and Wynne looked like two completely different themes.
