Amy brought out JB's kids' TV presenter side (which never really goes down well on Strictly) whereas Lauren is bringing out the JLS side, which is working much better.
This series is maybe (just, perhaps) changing my mind on the issue of the fairness in allocating duffers and ringers to the pros. It feels increasingly as if good dancers are squandered on certain pros whereas what would be the point in giving the likes of Vito or Katya anything less than, say, a journey contestant.
This series is also making clear that the producers storyboard the celebs as 'types' rather than celebrating their individuality. You just know that Tasha is going to end up dancing to young, female pop singers, that Montell will do a dance to Whitney Houston, that Wynne will be stuck with novelty routines. It ends up making all the series seem samey because every year we see the same journeys.
I'm also frustrated by the song choices absolutely killing some routines stone dead. Tasha danced that quickstep beautifully but the routine had zero impact because of the music. Stick her in a gorgeous dress dancing to a bit of Ella Fitzgerald and the dance would have been transformed. Ricky Whittle and Natalie Lowe quickstepping to Down With Love is what I want.
I loathe Couple's Choice but can't help but feel that Proud would have worked better for Sarah's CC routine. Hopefully this means that when she does do the dread dance it will at least be a big, camp, showbizzy musical theatre number.
