@Bailar I think the overall consensus here is that we have all had enough of sob stories.

If this was like Big Brother and you could vote people out - it's so long since I watched that I think that's how it goes but could be wrong - I would throw votes at Pete and anyone else milking the teats of their dead relatives.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/11/2024 21:20

@Bailar

I feel the same about Tasha, and Layton last year, it's simply an unfair playing field to expect the likes of Paul Merson or Krishnan Guru-Murthy to compete on their level.

I never vote for a ringer these days (I might have in the past unwittingly) but there are several posters who do and believe they have a place.

Reading the thread I’m glad I voted for Pete.
Cc is always like that. Rare exceptions being rose and Chris.
Obviously his man meant a lot to him.

januaryjan · 09/11/2024 21:22

Shayne, Chris and JB my favourites tonight.

If we are going down memory lane and stand out moments, (on the previous thread), I'd like to throw in Caroline Flack and Pasha, dancing to 'Angels'.

It was a show dance rather than a CC, but worth a mention regardless. 😎

SharpOpalNewt · 09/11/2024 21:27

Tasha reminds me a little of Abbey Clancy but is better. I love to watch her.

januaryjan · 09/11/2024 21:27

FagsMagsandBags · 09/11/2024 20:00

7!!! What the actual fuck. UNDERMARKED!

Totally agree. The blatantly bias marking, by some of the judges, has become laughable at this stage.

AlexaSetATimer · 09/11/2024 21:35

Can an experienced poster remind me of when the maths starts to mean that top of the leaderboard is no longer "pretty much safe" as said at the start.

We are at 9 couples now - how many were left when top scorers started to appear in DO when not getting public votes?

Thanks Smile

@AlexaSetATimer

I should say that the poster you need is @BehindTheSequinsandStilettos she's our usual statistician!

There are 9 couples. They are scored on their leaderboard position and public vote, then added together.

Top of leaderboard position scores a maximum of 9 so Tasha amd JB both have 9.

The maximum number of marks from both components would be 18 this week.

If Tasha or JB comes last in the public vote, then they score 1. So their total is 10.

If someone like Jamie, because of all the ties has 5 points for being bottom of leaderboard, but is the 3rd most popular in public vote then he scores 7 for that and his total will be 12. In fact, if both JB and Tasha are least popular tonight, then he will beat both of them!

SharpOpalNewt · 09/11/2024 20:34

A bit crass really of Pete, harping on about dead nans. Tomorrow we remember lots of lads who were forced to fight for their country and never made it to their 20s.

Edited

She died in 2022. I thought it was last week the way he was talking!

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 09/11/2024 22:10

What she said! Grin

No, in actual fact, my maths is tragic. I'm good at crunching other things but leader board permutations ain't one of them.

JB and Lauren: 9

Tasha and Aljaz: 9

Montell and Johannes: 8

Pete and Jowita: 8

Sarah and Vito: 7

Chris and Diane 7

Wynne and Katya: 6

Jamie and Michelle: 5

Shayne and Nancy: 5

The only thing I think is probable is that Chris is topping the public vote so he'll be on 16.
Certain of nothing else.

TheBell · 09/11/2024 22:20

I’m so annoyed that Pete is overmarked. He can’t dance at all. His wobbly lip over his nan 🙄. Man child . Disappointed with the judges there.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 09/11/2024 22:20

Oh and best/bitchiest comments from DS/Tattle life

Sarah/Vito - "cunniliftus"
Aljaz - his slight tummy has improved his gapping (ouch!)
Chris - Chris Hollins but blind (oof!)

FinneganFois · 09/11/2024 22:29

Sarah and Vito . . . so vulgar.

AlexaSetATimer · 09/11/2024 22:44

Cunniliftus made me snort - Will def be using this from now on Grin

Samcro · 09/11/2024 22:57

i Know what people mean about the CC and weeping and wailing, I felt the same way about Bobby last year.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 09/11/2024 22:57

I'm usually a sucker for a sob story but I'm afraid I couldn't get past the thought that Pete was forcing that lip to wobble. His overmarking was ridiculous - as was Craig's undermarking of Chris. You can't say that what someone is doing is remarkable, then mark them lower than virtually everyone else.

Hedjwitch · 09/11/2024 23:00

If you watch Wynne's lifts,he has massively improved. He sets his partner down like a feather...beautifully done.

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 09/11/2024 23:03

I assumed Pete has very recently lost his nan but it was 2022.

He's 36. I'd have thought most 36 year olds have lost a grandparent, if not all of them.

He was the worst for me. Shayne is starting to grow on me a bit. I thought he performed his rumba well even if it wasn't technically brilliant.

I think Katya is expert in making partners look better and Wynne did okay but not as well as his marks suggest.

mydogisthebest · 09/11/2024 23:08

I hated Pete's dance and, to me, he is the worst dancer but I guess he won't be in the dance off.

I am obviously in the minority here but I didn't really like Chris' dance either. I found it very boring.

Hercisback1 · 09/11/2024 23:22

I didn't watch the VT, Petes nan died in 2022.
Wow that is some milking. I assumed it was in the past week.

Chris was brilliant.

I'd definitely lost all mine by that age. One I don't remember as I was two when she died. I wasn't that close to any of my grandparents though.

I voted for Shayne. Really liked JB but he didn't need my vote and the voting had closed by the time I saw his dance.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 10/11/2024 00:07

I watched on catch up this week. What was going on with the judges' marking? It was all over the place I thought. Sarah under marked, Pete massively over marked. But I liked his pjs. JB seems to have blossomed with Lauren as a partner, loved that samba. I predict Wynne and Shayne in the dance off. Shayne has discovered the power of a better haircut (the Jay effect) perhaps too late...

RainbowSnake · 10/11/2024 00:19

I’m a similar age to Pete and have lost all my grandparents. I definitely think that’s normal.

I do have a bit more sympathy after reading a bit more about it though. Apparently his mum tried to take her own life when he was 12 and he was the one who found her so he rang his nan and she was the one who helped him through that period. I can see why she meant a lot to him but I’m never going to be a big fan of overly emotional CCs on Strictly. It’s just not what I watch for. I don’t actually mind a ringer though and I know most of you would disagree with me on that!

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 10/11/2024 00:40

Couple's Choice week
JB - Uptown funk 39
Montell - Afrobeats 39 representation
Tasha - Contempowaft 39 representation/social media bullying
Pete - Contempowaft 36 homage to dead Nan
Chris - Blackout moment 33 representation/everyone can shine
Punam - Bollywood 33 representation

Still got Jamie, Sarah and Wynne's to go.

Had all the above been in one week, I'd have put JB and Punam first and contempowafts last. There's few that aren't mawky mawk. I loved Adam Ripon's on DWTS to Fly on (O) and a French one to Papaoutai. On SYTYCD Charlie's was memorable (also done by Melissa on the American version) but even then a little manipulative/exploitative (headscarf/cancer-themed).
I was moved by Ashley/Pasha both their contemporary and their freestyle.

But Couple's Choice/Homage/Memorable moment week - they all need to be danced the same week so judges can be more honest in the ranking.
I know everyone adored Rose's but even that didn't do it for me, as Nyle/Peta had already done the silent moment in the States.
