I've not watched it yet but it was stressful enough just reading through these posts! Going to plant something in the garden before I sit down with a cuppa and a restorative biscuit or two

I can’t believe how upset I got watching Scarlett with Zara. I had actual tears!

Brilliant acting there, especially from Kia.

I’m so going to miss Doctors, I’ve watched it for 15 years.

I was in tears too, and I’m not someone who normally cries at TV or films.
Dread to think what I’ll be like tomorrow.

JoanChitty · 13/11/2024 15:34

Well! Welcome back kick ass Zara. I’m sure she has a cunning plan.
June’s daughter was Ellie Beavan who was in Wild House, children’s bbc

I’m amazed at the nerve of the BBC for putting out this ‘Celebration’ of Doctors tomorrow when they’ve failed to give it the respect (and resources) it deserves by canning it.

Ironic, isn't it?

I wonder if the powers that be thought they were axing a 'crap' soap that no-one watched, and didn't realise that actually it has quite a loyal fanbase?

JessyCarr · 13/11/2024 15:44

Zara was very tender in coaxing Scarlett to confide in her. That’s how it needed to be - woman to woman, no distractions, at a safe distance from the Mill. Beautifully done.

Cattyisbatty · 13/11/2024 15:53

Can't belive only one episode left and agree with all the other posters who say take a bit of money away from Eastenders, SCD and of course the ridiculously paid slebs like Gary Lineker who is a complete gobshite anyway.

JessyCarr · 13/11/2024 16:00

Wouldn’t it be great if as the final credits rolled they announced that as from Monday the slot will be filled with “Doctors in Paradise” - whereby all our favourites relocate to a sunny island to set up a new practice, while Graham rots in a stinky Letherbridge jail. Rob can come too - if Death in Paradise is anything to go by, there’ll be plenty to keep him busy while he enjoys romancing Ruhma.

JessyCarr · 13/11/2024 16:26

@ExquisiteIyDecorated please can you summarise (paywall). Does it say that Queen Camilla has banned the axing of Doctors because what else is she supposed to watch with her post-prandial cuppa?

I need this in my life! Perhaps us Doctors' fans should come up with some story lines - albeit with smaller kitchens!

Pebbles16 · 13/11/2024 21:00

I can't watch it live tomorrow (boo hiss), so my tribute to Doctors is here:
Mac had terrible wife choices. Boomeranging between the dreadful Julia and awful Kate.
Early 2000s, Doctors gave a lot of black actors great roles, ditto up and coming actors.
I loved Helen, Jude and George - paved the way for a lot of strong female characters.
Later on, it kept ex-soap actors in work.

I missed some years: Heston particularly.

The practice had ace receptionists: Sarah, Mrs Tembe, Karen, Val and Scarlett.
Even though we hated Kirsty, she ended up being a great character.
Even though we hated Nina, she was entirely preferable to Graham.
I hate that Al's attackers were never brought to justice.

I wish health, wealth and happiness to the characters (even though they aren't real):
Zara - regains her health, stays in fab suits and heels and continues to be the mother-ship to The Mill
Jimmi - comes back to The Mill but sets up his own counselling practice in the future
Al - becomes a global phenomenon with the Doctective, continues as a fab GP. Feels less guilt about his lovely Mum
Emma/6TL and Michelle decide to become partners and save The Mill's partnership - with Zara they become the triumvirate of healing hands in Letherbridge
Sid grows a pair and dates June Ackland's daughter, the MSU becomes an award-winning practice
Ruhma and Rob just bloody get on with getting it on
Bear realises how much he is valued and that his ankles are chilly so takes to wearing longer trousers - the cardigans remain debatable
Rosie becomes an eco-warrior and becomes the sustainability councillor in Letherbridge, she never runs out of biscuits
Luca returns to The Mill and gets to sack Maggie (because anyone who insists on latex gloves is evil - spot the person with a latex allergy). If we could do Dr Who type timey wimey, I think he and Greg would be an awesome couple
Sunni - just keeps on being Sunni, not sure he was ever rounded out as a character
Scarlett - oh let's wish the girl the best life. She is fab at VPass. The Mill sponsors her to become a HCA or a more hands on role with patients

For the real people in the show - on screen and behind, thank you for 24 years of entertainment and thought provoking content - we could have done without the furries episode...

martinisforeveryone · 13/11/2024 21:15

I started watching when Zara was involved in the trial and some witness protection. She was holed up in a hotel room with Daniel and Joe.

Some of it's been ridiculous and so bad and some, like Zara and Scarlett today has been well crafted and very well acted. Al has had some brilliant pieces too.

Most of my enjoyment has been watching along with the threads here. I will miss that. The BBC offering on Monday is Scam Interceptors. Not really any comparison is there, I'll have my lunch earlier and be otherwise engaged.

Lzzyisgod · 13/11/2024 23:01

Doctors was my guilty pleasure during mat leave (my baby is now a strapping teenager) but I still watch it 😂 and have dipped in and out these threads over the years (good old Gobby was always a great laugh) It's the only soap I have have religiously watched tbh but usually not live.

I am actually going to miss it so much! Luckily have found the early few series on a different channel so started to rewatch these but it won't be same 😭

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 13/11/2024 23:11

I watched intermittently on my maternity leaves 20 and 18 years ago, also probably my days off after DC2 when I went pt at work. Then I had 6 weeks off following surgery about 13 years ago, found these threads and have been here on and off ever since. It's been harder to watch live since they axed Fridays as that's my day off but I have always come back, I don't know anyone IRL who watches, I'll really miss these threads.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 13/11/2024 23:22

Haven't been on these threads for ages but have come back for the end. It has seriously lost its way quite a few times over the past few years but I'm going to miss it. Today's episode was fabulous and really does show what we're losing.

I'm still outraged by the sacking of Donna, still miss George & Ronnie, still hate Ruth and Cherry and still think the best ever episode was the truck splatting Dr Nick (he so had it coming).

Vivienne's rape was harrowing viewing but so brilliantly done. Julia's Lyme Disease meant that I recognised the symptoms in a friend and made her go to the GP. Heston's Christmas cliff-hanger was terrifying.

There's been characters I've loathed (Rhuma, 6tl, Mac, Ruth) and characters I've loved (too many to mention). I've watched from the first episode and I'm so sad it's finishing.

Will need tissues and Dogs In Hats tomorrow.

Lzzyisgod · 14/11/2024 08:33

Dr Niamh running off with a patient abroad was a really far fetched story line 🤣 I'm still a bit sad she and Al didn't get a happy ending.

Yesterday episodes was particularly potent especially with Timmy West appearing. I found the recent Mac episodes really moving too

Loved George and Ronnie! That's a blast from the past!

KnottedTwine · 14/11/2024 08:42

George and Ronnie era was when I started watching - again after being off on maternity leave. I have dipped in and out over the years but agree when it went to 4 days that was the beginning of the end.

I just miss the WTF episodes, like when Valerie had an accident (?) and thought she was in Alice in Wonderland, the one where a patient thought everyone was Joe Pasquale with Joe playing multiple roles, and all the nonsense about Geoffrey the cat. Interspersed with serious stuff like the one with Lisa from Eastenders which won an award, Heston's accident, Al's attack.

Cattyisbatty · 14/11/2024 09:00

Ah, I hate the WTF episodes, a bit of humour great but when they went seriously off-piste I couldn't be bothered! Much prefer 'real' issues with a bit of normal banter thrown in!
But that is me, I don't like fantasy.

Cattyisbatty · 14/11/2024 09:02

@Pebbles16 - love your summary!
I also hope the actors and team all manage to find employment elsewhere (or they already have). Shame for those who have been on Doctors a long time and are getting a bit longer in the tooth (like Rob for example). Mrs Tembe actor got out at a good time having been in Corrie now and other stuff.

KnottedTwine · 14/11/2024 09:05

I would imagine we'll see them pop up in all sorts of other things, Ruhma was in Eastenders, the actor who plays Rob was in a few things before Doctors, Jimmi was in either Holby or Casualty. I think Scarlett has a bright future ahead of her, and someone posted upthread that Luca/Bear have successful musical theatre careers.

It must be weird for the cast as for them, it was all over in March when they filmed the last ep.

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 14/11/2024 09:36

I never liked the WTF episodes either, the teambuilding days and fantasy sequences, I liked some humour or chaos (one of Joe's birthday parties getting completely out of hand, or that chef who fancied himself a couple of years ago when Ruhma and Val were going to his cookery classes). But generally I liked it for the deeper patient storylines and the ongoing sagas in the practice, plus the complete ludicrousness of only having one patient per day.

I hope we will be seeing all of them on screen again, I'm going to find and follow a few more of them on instagram to keep track. There have been some awful characters but generally the standard of acting has been very high.

KnottedTwine · 14/11/2024 10:19

Zara being interviewed on Morning Live in her kitchen. Which isn't as fancy as Zara's on the show.
